Romblon,Romblon..!

by elsadran

Romblon is still a paradise island. Its pristine sandy beaches, excellent coral reefs, rich flora and fauna, untouched forests, waterfalls, caves and wonderful beach hotels make it a perfect destination for quiet and cheap vacations without the crowds of the more popular islands. If you mention Romblon to locals they would think of the whole complex of about 20 islands with three main ones being Tablas, Sibuyan and Romblon. So you should refer to it as Romblon, Romblon. And as for the capital city..it is Romblon, Romblon, Romblon...! (ha,ha)The inhabitants are very friendly and extremely helpful and the island has no shortage of the usual assets that make travellers happy. You can also visit nearby islands, camp, barbecue and enjoy their heavenly beauty with nobody around! The beautiful historic town of Romblon is very nice to walk around with some historic forts and bridges. Two kilometers...

Sibuyan...the "Galapagos of Asia"

by elsadran

Sibuyan, a small pristine island of undisturbed beauty, is next to Romblon. Although it occupies only 445 square kilometers its main peak, Guiting-Guiting, reaches a height of more than 2000 meters. Because of its remoteness and the lack of touristic development its natural beauty has remained untouched. Scientists have decided to protect it from further lodging establishing a Natural Park around the mountain. The scenery is sparkling with its unspoilt grassland, canopy forests, and clearest rivers running down the slopes of its twin peaks. Locals enjoy their scenic land, picnicking and swimming in the pure waters. Biologists have given it the name of Galapagos of Asia and they haven't yet defined the total number of its flora and fauna species.I didn't climb the mountain myself as it although it would be great but I did get a guide and went to the Park where I mingled with the locals,...

Biliran - peaceful and romantic

by elsadran

This small undiscovered paradise is blessed with natural resources. Scenic landscape with rivers, natural springs, rice terraces, an active volcano and white sandy beaches on the nearby islands with crystal clear water and majestic marine life, excellent for snorkeling. In one of them, Higatangan, there is a lovely white sand bar which is shifting by the tide waters, gigantic clamshells and an inexpensive resort.. Sambawan island and Maripipi are also worth visiting. Picturesque waterfalls offer great hiking options. And free flowing natural therapeutic spring pools are there for your health enhancement.Unfortunately I had no time to exlore Biliran's beauty this time. I only stayed in the north west beach near Almeria where Agta beach resort is. It's very picturesque though too shallow to swim. Locals told me their specialty is boneless chicken on the spit. I tried it at a small...

Mapipipi island

by elsadran

Maripipi is a tiny island at the north tip of Biliran. Folk stories say that the name comes from a young couple who were found walking on the island. When they were asked their names they answered “Maria “ and “Pepe”. So "Maripipi" is the result of these two names pronounced together. The locals are very proud, polite and friendly mostly engaged in fishing . But I have met many teachers, too, and other educated people who work in the neighbouring Biliran. Nowadays they are about 8,500 of them.Maripipi is clearly a paradise perfect for relaxed vacations, and excellent snorkeling. (Bring your own gear.) It is also famous for the ceramic pots and chocolate naturally procedured. You can arrange accommodation at local houses if you meet the barangay captain But you can also find a connection through local people on neighbouring islands and arrange for a home stay. Biliran and Leyte are also...

Maripipi island-wonderful people!!

by elsadran

My curiosity brought me to Maripipi island and it didn't..kill me as it does to cats...! On the contrary it left me with the sweetest memories. On nearing the tiny island I could see palm trees covered the whole island . Unfortunately many of them were lying uprooted, unfortunate victims of an uneven war with nature. A hurricane had just passed by. Even several houses were smashed onto the coast rocks. A man in the boat very politely invited me to his family house as there was no accommodation except for a couple of resorts on remote beaches. The man's face brightened up when I accepted. Later I was amazed when I realized he was true when he said his family would be very happy if I stayed in their house. All the way to the house he was welcomed by locals and brought the elders' hand to his forehead, a local tradition to show respect. I did the same. His sisters, one of them a teacher,...

go diving in busuanga

by dan780

if you want to go diving in one of the best areas of the world go to Busuanga. It is a small relatively unknown island not too far north of Palawan. There is a sunken fleet of WW2 Japanese ships you can go diving in. It is cheap and worth the short flight from Manila

Don't Forget The Sweetest Fruit In The World

by allelli

If you visit the Philippines never forget to taste the world's sweetest mango it is produced in the island province of Guimaras. While other countries have different varieties of the tropical mango, none of them tastes like the superbly delicious Guimaras mango, which is a variety of the popular Carabao Mango (Manginera indica). In 1995, the Guinness Book of World records listed the Carabao Mango as the sweetest fruit in the world

Take a trip to a local farm

by chrisruns

I have relatives in the Philippines, so it was easy for us to see the parts of the Philippines which may not be on any top 10 travel lists. We traveled to a farm in Maragondon (about 54km southeast of Manila). We were taken aback from the beauty of the landscape. We were also interested in the different types of fruit being grown along with the different animals and insects around. It was truly different to anything we've seen in Europe or the U.S.. The people are also very friendly.
