GRANDFATHER OF THE CITY
You will find the massive statue of Ulo Ng Apo at the roundabout in Bajac-Bajac glorifying the legend of the city. Ulo Ng Apo actually means 'old man's head' and accpording to the legend the Olongapo area was home to many warring tribes, but a wise old man tried to unite the tribes, but one day the old man suddenly disappeared. Sometime later the old man's headless body was found, but no matter how they searched the tribesmen could not find the head, until one day a boy came across the head impaled on a bamboo stick. He ran back to the village shouting ' OLO NIN APO' which meant head of the old man. The phrase stuck and that is supposed to be how Olongapo got it's name. The statue at the roundabout signifies that the present day residents are united.
