Cebu Pacific Air is the No. 1 Low Budget Carrier in the Philippines (in domestic travel but in international travel, Philippine Airlines is still the Number 1). The airline is a wholly-owned subsidiary of JG Summit Holdings, controlled by the Gokongwei family - one of the richest Filipino-Chinese families based in the Philippines. Cebu Pacific is currently headed by Lance Gokongwei, it's CEO. Cebu Pacific has the largest domestic destinations and it flies BOTH to Kalibo and Caticlan Airports (Airbus A 319 on Kalibo and ATR-72 Turbo Prop Plane in Caticlan). Fares are cheaper is you buy 3 weeks in advance (usually about 5,000 pesos including all sucharges).

    their Main Office is in:

    Airline Operations Center Building
    Manila Domestic Airport Complex
    Old Domestic Road
    Pasay City
    Philippines 1301

In the Philippines, outrigger canoes (called bangka) are often fitted with powerful gasoline or diesel propeller engines to boost output. These Canoes are usually made of wood (In the west, they use fiberglass, which is very expensive!). Bangka's or Outrigger canoes features one or more lateral support floats (usually bamboo) known as outriggers, which are fastened to one or both sides of the main hull. In Boracay, these Bangka's are large and have roofs so that up to 30 persons can ride one. It is the main mode of transport from the Caticlan Ferry Jetty to Boracay island. Single trip can cost 50 pesos per person and you can also rent them for half day and whole day sailing (also diving) and they cost 2,500 pesos half day and 4,500 pesos whole day. Avaialble everywhere in Boracay.

    2 hour frive to boracay

Kalibo airport is not the main airport in Going to Boracay (the smaller caticlan airport is just 10 minutes away by boat to boracay but it only accomodates propeller driven planes) but it is here that the jet planes land (like the boeing 737 and Airbus 319) of Philippine Airlines and Cebu Pacific. Although Kalibo Airport is a domestic airport, it is the only domestic airport in the Philippines that serves international flights since foreign chartered flights lands here everyday loaded with foreign tourist going to boracay. Kalibo Airport is a small airport and is about a 2 hour drive away from Boracay hence if you are not afraid of propeller planes, I would suggest that you take the propeller service that lands in Caticlan Airport.

Cebu Pacific Air flies to and from Kalibo daily. They have launched a new aircraft to provide their clients better service and safer flights.

Once in awhile they usually comes out with a special fare both for local and international travel. So, better yet check their website for their upcoming deals.

  • Ride Around Boracay in a Paraw - Boracay Island
Ride Around Boracay in a Paraw
    by machomikemd, 1 more photos
Paraw is a narrow hulled wooden boat with bamboo outriggers either side and with passengers sometimes seated on a trampoline platform between the outrigger supports and powered by powerful diesel motor propellers hence Paraws are extremely fast off the wind, but can be unwieldy and if you will really vomit if you have sea sickness. Up to 10 people can ride a paraw and you can rent a paraw for half day or full day diving or sailing tour around boracay and its environs. Half day cost 1800 pesos and whole day at 3500 pesos. Available everwhere in Boracay.

    Native Paraw
    by sirenna
Paraws are native sailing boats made from wood and bamboo. This particular kind of sailboat is found only in the Western Visayan region of the Philippines.
The design has changed very little over the centuries, and although they were originally used for fishing, enterprising Boracay sailors can now take you on sightseeing and snorkeling tours around the island. This is without a doubt the best way to explore the beaches of Boracay - it's so much more peaceful & relaxing than a motorised banca boat. The absence of a keel means that these versatile little boats can sail in very shallow water, and even pull up on the shore so that you can explore deserted coves and go snorkeling.

There are 2 ways of getting to Boracay. One is to take the small planes from Manila to Caticlan. The other is to take the bigger planes from Manila to Kalibo and then take a van to Caticlan. The 1.5 land hour trip costs P85/person.

From Caticlan, all Boracay-bound visitors need to take a 15-20 minute boat ride. The boat ride costs P89.50/person broken down into: P20 terminal fee, P19.50 boat ride, and P50 environmental fee. However, the boat ride coming back costs only P19.50/person.

Rent a mountain bike and explore the parts of Boracay usually hidden from most tourists. Visit small villages, ride through the forest or discover deserted beaches. Remember to bring plenty of water. Not sure of the bike rental price as I have my own bike, but it's relatively cheap and you can usually bargain them down a bit too.
Buy a little map from the Tourist Center to help you plan your route.

  • Pedicab on White Beach - Boracay Island
    Pedicab on White Beach
    by sirenna
A pedicab is a little bicycle with a sidecar attatched. Good for two people - or one large person! These are popular on the White Beach path, where motorised tricycles are not permitted. Prices really do seem to vary according to the driver and the distance. Around P20/P30 per person is normal for a short ride.
If you hit a patch of soft sand, have the decency to get out and walk for a few feet - it's really hard for the driver to pedal through it with you aboard. Be sure to agree the price first before you get in.

  • Here are the web links for some regional airlines. Like anywhere in the world, be aware of hidden fees and rules, especially regarding cancellations and transfers.

On the other hand, they have great prices and some good routes... just be ready for a sudden last minute change of plans.
