The best part of the island is its 4km. White Beach, also called long beach by the locals. It is situated at the west coast between the villages of Angol and Balabag, and some experienced travellers claim it to be the finest beach of all Asia. The water is shallow here, and its sand brighter and finer than most beaches in the archipelago. There are about 350 beach resorts with 2000 rooms to suit virtually everyone's taste. There is accommodation of all types and price categories. Restaurants range form the native fastfood stalls to establishments that would satisfy even a gourmet. When we inquired at the Tourist Center, we were informed that a one-way trike ride to New Washington (next town to Kalibo) is P80. However when we approached a trike driver, he was charging us P150 one-way claiming that our destination is already another town and far. When we asked around for another way to go to the city proper (where we plan to get another ride to New Washington), the others discouraged us; we were told that it is difficult to get a ride along the highway, because the jeeps or trikes were already taken. It seems that the drivers of the orange-color trikes are a solid group :-(
Finally, we agreed to a round trip price of P250 including a one hour waiting time while we tour Sampaguita Gardens and return drop off at the Caticlan-bound van terminal.
Bargain and offer a package that will benefit both parties.
Gather as much information and come up with contingency plans on how to move within the area. For instance, we later found out that the highway is only 200 meters away from the airport where we could hail trikes that could take us to New Washington.
