JanmhayveS Handicraft supplies the major department stores in Metro Manila with quality handmade native bags and other abaca products. Their prices are about 50% cheaper than the prices of same products in, say, SM Kultura.
It's run by a dynamic husband and wife team of Mr. and Mrs. Bigornia. Mrs. Leth manages the store while Mr. Bigornia runs the factory and is in-charge of quality control. They are very accommodating and is open to requests for a factory visits.
Busay Falls is a series of 7 waterfalls of differing heights located in Malilipot, Albay. It is a good way to spend a day exploring this part of the province.
Busay Falls about 20km north of Legazpi City in the direction of Tabaco, Albay. There is a sign clearly visible from the road marking the small road leading to the waterfalls. You have to drive an additional 2 kms. on the rural road which is a little worse for wear but can be negotiated easily even by tricycles that can ferry tourists there for a fee.
If you have a fetish for bags then a visit to Malilipot is a must. Malilipot is a town in Albay which is famous not only for the Busay Falls but also for its beautiful bags.
Judith is very nice to take me there. From the outside, the place looks like a sleepy town but looking closely, you will see small houses filled with beautiful and colorful bags made from abaca fibers. Just knock and enter their simple abode...inside each house, women are busy sewing and displaying their bags.
These bags not only caters local stores but are also exported to different countries. Generates big income for this town.
Cost of bags range from 40pesos to 300pesos depending on the design and materials used. Very cheap...you'd like to take home a whole bunch :0)
