Shopping in Tabaco

In Tabaco you can buy a wide range of abaca products. Bags, baskets, slippers, sandals, place mats, door mats and home decors! They also specialize in tabak (a local name for bolo knife). Don't forget the pili products. Look for the Bonto brand of pili nut products. According to May, they make the best pili jam, and sweetened pili nut. The small jam costs Php75. And the small jar of sweetened pili is 3 for 100. The masapan de pili is Php 25 while the tarts varied according to the size.

Bikol Ceramica: Terracotta in Tiwi

This is one of the two shops near the Philippine Ceramics. They have a lot of ceramic items for sale and the price is not too bad. Buying here is also a good way to support local enterprise.The Philippine Ceramics is government owned and it provides local craftsmen a place to make their products. They then sell it in their own shops. Tiwi's specialty is the terracota. There are chimes, tea light vases of various sizes, lamps, vases, jars and pots among others. It varies, I bought a medium tea light vase for only Php15. A small lamp is Php 250. Small chime Php 45. :)

Satellite market: Pasalubong Shopping in Legaspi

Satellite market is a cluster of merchant stores near the central bus terminal. All products sold here are crafts uniquely bicolano, wood, leather, plant fibers and abaca crafts like comfy house slippers, artful and colorful bags, baskets of all shapes and colors, unique house decors, various house utility items and containers. The various crafts will make your wonder what other unique items they can make from materials unique in bicol.For any purchase, make sure to haggle... You'll find it pays off especially for volume purchases.By the way, some people advise to purchase from the Cagsawa ruins. According to some, products are cheaper there. In our experience, both markets vary prices in various products, but not very significant for a few piece of items only. If you are keen in getting least possible cost for volume purchase, it's best to check both markets.

legazpi central market: the best handcrafted bags

albay is know for cheap quality handcrafted bags and when in albay don't ever forget to go to their market and purchase these goods. bags come in all shapes, color and sizes and are export quality. they're really cheap (i got a 2 bags for P300) and worth your money. handcrafted bags sold in manila actually come from albay! so imagine the price you pay when you buy it in manila and imagine how cheap it is if you get it from albay. haggling is expected and prices range from P150 - P500 per item.

Cagsawa Souvenir Shops: Buy A Shirt

You can buy from the souvenir shops lining outside Cagsawa Ruins Park. Items ranging from shirts to local crafts are aplenty here. Shirts cost P150 each but you can also find bargains for old stocks at P100. Shirts have prints of Mayon Volcano & other landmarks. Shirts & local crafts for souvenirs. P150

Tabak Stalls at the Market: Shop for Machete

The town of Tabaco in Albay got its name from the word "Tabak" which means machete in local dialect. The town indeed is famous of its machete-making industry. Visiting the town's market, there is a long stretch of stalls selling machetes of different shapes and uses. Also sold are folding knives, samurais, scissors and the most-sought cockfighting blades. Various shapes and sizes of machetes and other bladed tools.
