    Light Candles Before Religious Images

by cyndymc Updated May 17, 2010

I was curious why the candle vendor kept on asking me if I wanted to put a candle infront of the stained glass window. I then realized that it was customary to first light a candle infront of the religious image before praying inside the church. I noticed that in no time, devotees lit candles on the pavement.

    Kissing & Touching Religious Icons

by cyndymc Updated Apr 26, 2010

Don't be surprised and never laugh when you see locals make the rounds of religious icons in the church to kiss and/or touch them. As in other Bicol towns and cities, the religious icons are kissed or touched by devotees, then they touch the part of the body that needs healing, believing that if they touch the ailing parts with the hand that touched the religious icons, they will be healed.
