    Morong Things to Do

Bataan Beaches are known for nesting marine turtles (Pawikan) coming in the evenings. It is said that people from poor communities used to come to collect the eggs for food or trade, and sometimes hunt the female turtles to eat the meat, then sell the shells and skin to traders who resell them as illegal by-products (stuffed pawikan, ornaments for...

    Bagac Things to Do

The tower which was constructed with the help of the Japanese government is located on a little triangle of land in the middle where a local road and busy national road meet. It is to symbolize the reconciliation between the two countries and the wish for continued peace and friendship. In the middle of the three pillars of the tower is hung a...

  • Sandflies!!!

    Bagac Warnings and Dangers

I went to the left side of the cove to take pictures. Curiousity got the better of me so I went further to see the site of Old Montemar. While I was there, I felt some small bites on my legs which I thought were the doing of mosquitoes (it was a little bit dark yet), but I couldn't see anything. When we got back to Montemar Resort, I told the nurse...

  • Visit the Surrender Site Marker

    Balanga Things to Do

This is a sad little site which needed to be visited by people who tour Bataan. It is located on the back lot of a public elementary school in the center of the city. The location of the tableau is purported to be the location where on April 9 1942, Maj. Gen. Edward King met with Maj. Gen. Kameichiro Nagano to discuss the terms of surrender of the...

  • Visit the Bataan Tourism Center

    Balanga Things to Do

It's worth your while to visit the Bataan Tourism Center for information and a glimpse of the arts and crafts of the province. Balanga Local Customs

At the Central Plaza Mall, the food attendant at Red Ribbon patiently gave me directions on how to go to the ladies' restroom in the mall. The security guard of the mall also left his post (but we told him to go back lest he be reprimanded by his superiors) to show my husband the route back to Roman Superhighway. We parked our car in the compound of...

    Pilar Things to Do

I think it is a must for every Filipino to go and visit the Shrine of Valor (Dambana ng Kagitingan) atop Mt. Samat! I have been there several times but it still is special! It is not the immensity of the cross nor the climb to it that takes my breath away but the significance of it!It makes me proud to know that contrary to the belief of some, my...

  • Mount Samat: A memorial to the brave

    Pilar Things to Do

During the Second World War the armed forces of Imperial Japan swept through many areas in the Philippines. The remaining American and Filipino forces were forced to retreat to Mount Samat and the island of Corregidor in the Bataan Peninsula under war Plan Orange as formulated by General Douglas McArthur. After three days of fierce fighting over...

  • Go Up To The Arms Of The Cross

    Pilar Things to Do

The Memorial Cross has a height of 92 meters from the base, and its arms are set at 74 meters from the base, with a length of 30 meters or 15 meters per side. Inside the arms of the cross is the Viewing Gallery where tourists can (on a fine sunny day) see a panoramic view of Pilar and neighboring towns. My grandson and I were excited to see the...

  • Silahis Death March Marker

    Orani Favorites

This Death March marker is one of the most beautiful that I have seen while going on landmark hunting trips in Bataan for a school project. It is a bronze sculpture placed on a marble finished background. If you wish to see many of the historical landmarks, take the inner road (MacArthur Highway) instead of the major highway to Mariveles (Roman...

  • Painting of what Orani is like.

    Orani Favorites

I attended a civil wedding at the Municipal Hall of Orani and happened to see this painting on its second floor. Probably useless posting its pic here as tourists or visitors seldom are allowed on the second floor unless they have oficial business. But I think it best captures what the town of Orani is all about. There are pics there of seafood,...

  • Try the Local Flavor - Alupihang Dagat

    Orion Favorites

I learned only now that this is called "Mantis Prawn" in English. Earlier, I'm very tempted to say it's "Centipede from the Sea"! hehehe. In other provinces, they call it "tatampal" or "palpatok".Very unusual-looking and others might cringe looking at it but I assure you it tastes good. When harvested in season, the flesh should be pinkish in...

    Talimundoc Warnings and Dangers

This is one of those irksome things you will notice when you are a driver. Unfortunately, it seems that town planners and traffic authorities dont really pay attention to possible dangers along the road. When you go out of the Barrio, you will notice that your view to the right side is blocked by the lined up tricycles. This is actually an...

    Talimundoc Transportation

Although you can walk to the resort from the Roman Highway in ten minutes and if you've got a mind to, you can walk the entirety of the Barrio and resort subdivision in under an hour, some opt to ride a tricycle. At 5 pesos per person (10c U.S.), the ride is actually cheap and could save you from walking underneath a very hot sun or pouring rain....
