"What is essential is invisible to the eye".......

by paolodecastro

Aside from the place itself...is how people live here...they are very simple, pure and kind-hearted.........very far from what we see in Manila.......even in Bulacan my hometown..........People here will greet you when they see you in the street........i am 28 and an old woman greet me with po and opo........i felt guilty at that time...they are so kind here..........the other incident i tried to look at the amboy shop so i could rent a bike....i can't find the place ...then a man get on his motorbike and asked me to ride on he will take me to the shop...no one will do that in manila....only here in Batanes.....when i am on the plane the flight is 1 hour and 45 minutes (so theres a lot of time to look back and reminisce) i tried to look back on the four days i spent here........and i realized that all the time i am always busy trying to look good so i can please everybody.........buy new...

great tour guide

by blubee

we had a wonderful and charming tourist guide who is from Batanes and also works as a writer. His name is Jack Castano III. if you are going there with a group, i would advise you to get in touch with him if he will be available to be your guide. His cell no. 0920-485-7891. his email jackecastano3@hotmail.com the serenity of the place, the friendly people, zero crime rate. I noticed children can walk safely and freely without fear or apprehensions

Meals

by rebeccadv

You should order your meals in advance. Batanes is not a touristy place, the establishments will go to market/the fisherfolk to get food for your meal. Do not be discouraged if you walk in to a place, without having made prior arrangements, and find the selection of food available VERY limited.

Seasonal

by rebeccadv

You should really only go from end February through early May. Or, be prepared to get stuck, and instead of feasting on fresh sea food you will be eating out of cans...And even when you do go, during the suggested time frame, dont plan your departure from the Philippines on the same or next day as your Batanes-Manila flight...

Hiker's Paradise

by calej

Batanes is the one of the few places I'd still recommend hitchhiking! I love the Batanes people, they are so kind and caring to visitors and no kidding they will let you sleep in their homes if you find no shelter. Their ways are of the old world untouched by materialism and commercialism - unlike other places where you have to watch your back, here you can just relax and make friends and be truly happy! It's a hiker's dream as almost one half are hills and mountains. Breathtaking cliffs and crags are everywhere. Don't ever forget your camera! You don't need a detailed itinerary to enjoy Batanes. We didn't and we just let the wind take us wherever. It was wonderful. But if you really have to have a 'goal', visit Mt. Iraya, take a ride on a 'fallowa' (best round-bottom boats), wear a 'vakul' (Ivatan rain cape), see the limestone houses, visit neighboring islands Sabtang and Itbayat,...
