You "MUST" check weather forecast before going to Taal Volcano trek. If it starts raining in the middle of trek, there is no shed where you can take shelter. It rains heavily and the path will get slippery.

When you board and alight the Banca (traditional boat), do be careful as the boat is rather narrow and sometimes can be unstable. Try to step onto the middle of the narrow boat, and sit in such a way as to balance the boat. Remember to wait till the boatman stabilises the boat before boarding and alighting.

There is a sulphur smell when you reach the Taal Volcano crater rim, so you can buy some masks at the village before heading up just in case it may be too overwhelming for you. Also please note that the small lake within the crater is acidic and it is not recommendd to swim even though there is a path leading down to it. In addition, the slopes on the crater rim is very steep, so try not to wonder off the usual path as it can be very dangerous.

As with most tourist destinations throughout the world, there is no shortage of touts here. You will see touts holding up signs that say, " Boat Trip To Volcano " or something similar. Most are honest but will certainly try their best to extract the maximum pesos they can from you. Though most visitors use them, it is recommended that you hire (additional cost) an authorized tour guide who can point out the pertinent facts along with excellent and useful information. The guides speak English and are worth the small cost of using their services. These guides have official picture ID badges which can easily be verified with the local authorities.

Taal Volcano is one of the most active volcano in the Philippines so you have to treat it with respect. The activity of this volcano is monitored closely, and when there are abnormal volcanic activities, trekking up the volcano will not be allowed and you have to be prepared for it.
