Long River Cruise: Nice view, not so nice food

It's undeniable that the Loboc River cruise is just amazing. Add the sumptous feast of local food while cruising the experience is just amazing. That was the ideal purpose of our trip, but our tour guide brought us to this restaurant which served us with blandly flavored local cuisine and unappetizingly cooked. It was plentiful but you wouldn't be asking for another bite after your first. We didn't have stomach aches but surely our stomachs are craving for a better food than they served.

This restaurant is an old stone house just beside Dauis Church. It has its best location and a homely ambiance. The place had a large patio where you'd love to just sit and stare at the calm river. The food in the menu consist of native Filipino dishes and desserts. The humba and adobo was delicious. It has a gift shop inside.

Favorite Dish: Tsokolate eh souffle was awesome

  • Guiseppe Pizzaria & Sicilian Roast: Best Italian Food in Panglao and Bohol

by LivinginBohol Written Jul 18, 2012

Excellent. This is truly one of the best places to dine in Bohol if you have the chance to eat there. Appropriate pricing, outstanding service, and delicious non-Filipino food. Bohol has many great tasting local menu items, but Guiseppe's brings the taste of Italy, Sicily to be specific to your tastebuds. I have eaten there many times and every time was excellent, whether with a large group or just my wife (a Boholana) and myself. Good wine selection and the food selection is very accommodating. Normally there is a daily special that is truly unique considering the international food scene in Bohol is quite limited. The staff is friendly and very approachable, plenty of seating, facility is modern, price is appropriate and CR or bathrooms very clean. Before, they were closed on Mondays, not anymore, open 7 days a week as of June 2012 my last visit. Next time I eat there I will post photos of the delicious food. Can't wait to go back again. If you are visiting Bohol, you cannot miss this restaurant.

Favorite Dish: The egg plant appetizer is a great starter covered with real mozzarella cheese and roasted tomatoes, followed with a cream dory served with some original authentic risotto. I feel this is one of their best dishes although the lamb is excellent too. Expect to pay for the quality food; however, not much more than you pay for lesser quality cuisine other place in Bohol. The serving size is considered large compared to local sizes. You will have to pay for each individual drink.

  • McDonalds: Fast food in Bohol

by LivinginBohol Written Jul 18, 2012

Staff are friendly and polite speaking English, Tagalog and Visayan, the food is the same quality you should expect at any McDonalds world wide, sometimes seating is short of supply during most meals as Bohol has only 1 McDonalds for the entire island in Tagbilaran. Wi-Fi is normally working, ask staff for the password to login while you eat. The restaurant is very clean, air-conditioned and very affordable compared to local food prices. The staff works diligently to get customers their orders in a very timely manner.

Parking fee of 100 Php for the BQ Mall Parking area but is consumable (you can turn your ticket in for a 100 Php discount in stores in the mall). Parking across from BQ Mall at City Square Mall is 25 Php for Motorcycles and 35 Php for vehicles.

Be expected to be approached on your walk to McDonalds by profession syndicate Mangyan beggars. Do not confuse these people with local Boholanos. Most Boholanos would rather die that take a hand out, especially in public. The Mangyan beggars are easy to spot, normally dressed overly poor and carrying one small child asking for money for food for them and the child. If you offer them food, or something from the restaurant your attending, they will just scowl and walk away. Even if you offer them to dine with you, they refuse only wanting the money. They congregate on the side street of McDonalds next to the Metro Bank ATM where many motorcycles are parked. These are the same beggars you will find in any major city in the Visayas or Mindanao, please do not associate them with the local population.

There is only one Courtesy Room (bathroom/restroom), and it is Unisex and is normally occupied by someone fixing their hair. A CR is located on the 3rd floor of the BQ Mall, and cost 10 Php for use. The CR is always clean with vacancy but you will need your own tissue. There is also a CR located within the grocery store on the 1st floor that will cost 10 Php for use it is also clean and will require you own toiletries.

If you are on vacation, need a quick inexpensive meal with a good atmosphere, McDonalds is one place that you can rely on getting what you expected.

Favorite Dish: McSaver Chicken sandwich - 39 Php and delicious.

Garden Cafe: For that old western experience

The restaurant is a local restaurant with an old western theme in it. The place was well decorated and oh the food was the best. The food has particularly rich flavor and you will have lots of viands to choose from their menu. The dessert of mango pie topped with ice cream was sweet and unique. It has a bakery inside and their specialty is mango pie.

    Cafe Olegario Signage.......

It is an old ancestral house
    transformed into a cafe/restaurant........

What makes this famous is that ...they have this special menu and special ingredient....
which is the crab.....they get it in their own backyard......(they are near the beach that is why ..........the crabs are coming out from the holes in their...backyard)
    Unique isn't it..........

The downpoint only is that staff are not well trained to interact with guests........
and second...they should let the tourist know...that their main menu should be ordered one day in advance,,,,,,

Because guest go there because of the crab menu...not the typical adobo or mechado.....dishes
    got it.........

Favorite Dish: Should be the Ginataang Alimango....but i did not get the chance to eat this because if you order this It should be one day in advance....the menu is hard to cook and will take long hours.......
But i ordered their other menu because its alredy lunch and the next restaurant will take sometime.......

BUt what i did i get the chance to get a picture of the live Crab.......good enough...i think.....

  • Chicken Ati-Atihan: Awesome and cheap

by bucheonman Written Apr 25, 2011

Not only is it famous and easy to find (ask any trike driver), it is super cheap. A leg of chicken and some rice as about 80 peso when I went, and it came out quickly. We ordered 3 for 2 people. Garlic rice is nice too.

Favorite Dish: The regular chicken legs and rice combo was good. The basic item. My wife ordered some broiling pan of chicken. It sucked. Pretty much all bones and almost no meat.

Bohol Bee Farm: Organic Salad Galore

    Bohol Bee Farm

You have to exert extra efforts to visit the place but it's worth the trip. Getting there, we took the habal-habal. After passing through a stony and dusty path, we were able to reach BBF, which was good since hunger is setting in. My friend and I ordered Grilled Tanigue and Grilled Squid with brown rice and organic salad (consisting of cultured lettuce and flowers which I think was gumamela) plus our own choice of fruit shake. Likewise added to our meal was 'sinigang na hipon'... Yummy!! We were surprised to be served with complimentary 'camote' bread with three different spreads -- mango, honey and pesto. All of which tasted exceptional, we couldn't help but buy those loaves and spreads on our way back to the hostel. After eating, you would want to check out the seaview or take pictures from their massage area or scan their gift shop for pasalubong.

Favorite Dish: Grilled squid is just one of them. =)

    The Buffet

Food was great. Your trip won't be complete without trying out the buffet in Bohol Bee farm. We had dinner here and it costs us 550php. 500 for payment, and 50 for service charge i think. The food is organic, and their food was not regular food. The seafood lasagna tasted normal, but everything else was special!

Favorite Dish: Chicken - crispy and sweet
    Bluemarlin
Cassava chips - dipped in Pesto

    Sauteed fish with broccoli

Food was cheap compared to other place.

We ate here because we read this place had good reviews.

We ate cordon bleu and sauteed fish with brocoli.. Both food was cheap and yummy :)

DON"T buy the FRUIT SALAD Though, because it is only a mixture of friends and in small quantity. Not worth the 85 pesos.

    IT also had wifi!

    Favorite Dish: Cordon Bleu

    Organic Vegetable & Flower Salad
    4 more images

The Bamboo Resto is one of the 2 restaurants of Bohol Bee Farm. You reach it by walking down from the parking area, passing by the refreshing greeneries and exotic flowers. It has a nice native decor motif, and has a viewdeck where one's eyes can feast on the awesome seascape.

Favorite Dish: We liked the organic vegetable & flower salad with honey mustard dressing. The flowers were surprisingly delicious!

Retaurant by the beach, Alona Beach that is.  Great tasting pizzas!  Big portions too and friendly staff.  A lot of foreign tourists eat here.

Favorite Dish: Thin crust pizzas and they're served really fresh and big. The halo halo was also delicious (although in my opinion, a little pricey).  All the foods served at this place are definitely fresh and tasty.  The prices for the different types of pizzas are just right.
