Behind the tower is a ridge with a cross. People say that the original cross planted at the cliff by the natives was a symbol of their acceptance of Christianity and had reportedly miraculously saved the locals from the attacks of pirates/marauders.

Seeing the Punta Cruz Watch Tower is like seeing a scene in the movie "Stargate". The Watch Tower is a triangular-shaped structure built of stone patterned after a Spanish fortress described as "an abridged pyramid with 3 sides".
We decided to explore the tower. As we entered, we saw a religious icon (said to be San Vicente). Then, we went up the stairway leading to the 2nd storey where portions of the walls are open, serving as big windows. From the top, we saw a nice view of Bohol Channel and the islands of Cebu, Siquijor and Mindanao.
It is said that in the olden times, Muslim pirates invaded Bohol so aside from guiding seafarers, Punta Cruz also served as watch tower for enemies. Watching from its big, wide windows, I imagined how it must have been thrilling waiting for the marauders.

The tower may be just a small structure but since you reached it, it is better to explore the tower, both the external and internal. It is one of the few watch towers that is still open so why not make the most of it. Pay attention to the details of the tower.

From the main road, there is a steep descending road leading to the Punta Cruz Watchtower. It is one of the better preserved towers in Bohol. The structure itself is a sight to marvel, both outside and inside. Inside the tower, an image of a saint will greet you and on both side there are stairs that will lead you the the upper part of the tower. From there, the breathtaking sight of the sea and the surrounding area.
At the yard of the tower, there is a big white cross. There is also a small restaurant and a chapel
