ALONA BEACH: QUIET NIGHT AT ALONA BEACH

  • Most of the establishments are closed by 10 pm and by that time, Alona Beach is all a quiet. There used to be 4 restaurants which provide nightime entertainment. The Safety Stop near the Oasis Resort was closed the last time I went there in November. The Flying Fish has some lights on but there seemed to be no activity inside. Thus, the only thriving night spots the last time I went there are: 1. Oops Bar - This is the more popular spot. It is located along the beach and it has singers serenading the people. The bar is frequented mostly by foreigners. 2. Sam's - This is beside the Oops. Everytime I pass by this bar, i always hear reggae music. These bars close when the last customer leaves. In most instances, by 12:30. I observed that the customers are there simply to unwind. They just drink, chat and laugh. The customers are not loud and rowdy and evidently, the bars are not cruising places. You will not see people milling on the beach. Even with this bars open, they keep the volume of the music down and do not disturb the stillness and silence of Alona Beach at night.

    No dress code.

    The Oops! Bar shows movies in the afternoon, offers live music for dinner on Fridays and the only disco in Alona Beach on Saturday night. Don't miss it! You can also get a good meal (and when you're a long time and way from home you could try something unusual in this part of the world: Mashed potatoes! ;o) and enjoy their happy hour beers, shakes and long drinks.

    Hey... - 12 meters to the ocean... Don't show up in a tux!

    the bar and restaurant have live band during friday nights. comparing to other bands in metro manila, the band that performed is a little bit shabby. the sound sytem is aweful but what the hell...we still enjoyed it. mostly, foreign tourist would be seen either dining or drinking.

    Warning - Remember "Pyramid Grilled" and avoid it in Alona There are several stalls offering relatively fresh seafood along Alona beach. You choose what you want, and they either grill it or saute it in butter and garlic (your choice). The food is tasty, but the problem is invariably these establishments provide slow and disorganized service. They don't need to provide top rate service to you because you are a tourist, and chances are you will never visit them again. They know that, and it shows. The worst place in terms of speed and ownership attitude I have encountered is Pyramid Grilled. They are located in the middel of several competing places. The food they provide is not bad, and you can try it provided that you don't mind waiting over 90 minutes for your food and are willing to ask the wait staff several times to hurry up. Overall I think Pyramid Grilled is a textbook example of a restaurant existing due to drive for profit in a tourist area. Good service, good management, attention to detail, etc. are all lacking.

    This place has a pool table, a good selection of music, a good bar, a good BBQ and a good atmosphere among the staff and the customers. The only "problem" is the TV running - who cares about news from the world when you're in paradise???
