    Divine Mercy National Shrine

    by nixca316 Written Feb 6, 2007

    4.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

(from an article from an anonymous author)

Some years ago when Fr. Vic Robles celebrated the feast of the Divine Mercy on April 6, 1991 at the St. Michael Church in Marilao, little did he know that he would be building a shrine of the Divine Mercy to which thousands of people would come for healing and spiritual renewal.

God guided him to Sta. Rosa I, a barrio of Marilao, where he built what is now a shrine with Stations of the Cross on the vast land behind the church and the chapel of Our Lady of Fatima. The chapel of St. Joseph will be constructed soon.

Building the shrine was not easy. It took many years, but God was with Father Vic all the way. There was an incident when he needed money badly to pay workers and buy materials. Out of the blue, a lady arrived at the shrine and handed him an envelope, which contained a check worth 1 million pesos.

Testimonies on miraculous healings and even spiritual conversion were told during Mass. The fame of the shrine spread.

So when you visit Marilao, Bulacan, don't forget to pass by the National Shrine...

Barasoain Church (Our Lady of Mount Carmel)

    by nixca316 Updated Feb 6, 2007

    4.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

This place is actually the Shrine of Our Lady of Mount Carmel, but people refer to it as the Barasoain (Bah-rah-swah-in) Church. If you look for Our Lady of Mount Carmel, some people might look like they're thinking, "Whatya talkin about?"

A lot of historical events happened here:

    1. The convening of the First Philippine Congress (September 15, 1898)

    2. The first Philippine Constitution was drafted here in 1898. (Malolos Constitution) (September 29, 1898 to January 21, 1899)

    3. It was the seat of the 1st Philippine Republic from Sept. 15 1989 to the last week of February in 1899 (under the Presidency of Pedro Paterno). Emilio "Miong" Aguinaldo, proclaimed the ratification of the constitution from the balcony of the adjoining convent on January 21, 1899. He was inaugurated as of the First Philippine Republic (January 23, 1899).

    4. Former President Joseph Estrada's Presidential Oath Taking was held here in 1998.

The architecture of Barasoain Church engages the viewer for its curved facade, rose window and medieval bell tower. Floral motifs and frescoes of angels and saints adorn the interior.

In its convent the Universidad Literaria Cientifica de Filipinas was first housed. Its museum showcases a collection of municipal antiques and priceless array of artifacts. It also boasts of a light and sound museum under the management of National Historical Institute.

    Basilica Minore: Immaculate Conception

    by nixca316 Updated Feb 6, 2007

    4.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

This historic church was in 1896 the seat of power of Gen. Emilio Aguinaldo—the first president of the Republic of the Philippines. Located in front of the Basilica Minore is a century-old tree known as the Kalayaan Tree (Tree of Freedom) which was planted by Pres. Aguinaldo during a lull in the historic Malolos Convention.

In Sta. Maria, Bulacan, although still considered a municipality, it is indeed a booming city in the province where you can find this church (replica of the Nativity Church in Bethlehem)
