    by bike_packer Written Nov 12, 2005

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

The St. Philomene Church in Alcala, Cagayan was built in the late 19th century. Built on the last colonizing years of the Spaniards, it is still noticeable of its Spanish-influence architecture which is common to most churches in Cagayan. Made of bricks, the church is noted to be the widest church in the province measuring 90 m. long and 30 m. wide.

What to buy: This native delicacy is made from pure and fresh carabao's milk. We also have this milk candy in Masbate.

The store is located along the highway in Alcala.

Kabag-kabag is a Tagalog term for this particular specie of small bats. These creatures thrive inside the Philomene Church, we saw so many of them at the walls and ceilings even during daylight. Maybe it's because the church's interior is dark. Interesting as they may seem, their droppings leave an unpleasant odor inside the church :0(.
