When you got to the Bantayan island, you musn't miss to see one of the oldest churches in the country- the Bantayan Church. They say this church has its own history; it was built on 1580, got destroyed by fire and eventually reconstructed.I wondered what the walls of this church are made of... since it looked odd compared to other churches that...more
Ogtong Cave is quite popular among the must see sights in Bantayan Island. It’s located within the Ogtong Cave resort grounds.I thought this cave is like the usual caves like what I see in tv, magazines, etc. but when we finally had the chance to see it, I’m a little bit disappointed since I really thought it’s a big cave. But please don’t get me...more
Bantayan Proper is just a few kilometers away from the Budyog resort where we stayed. We hired a jeepney to take us back to the resort and since we are a large group of 10 people, we paid 50Php for the service fee. The Bantayan Market sells danggit (dried fish), dried squid and other dried fishes that the Cebu is popular for. It’s cheaper to buy...more
We decided to checkout the restaurants in Sta Fe town and our pedicab driver recommended HR. After going to the market, we stopped by HR. Rhoda, the waitress who waited on us was friendly and tried to answer our questions about the food. Sometimes she would go to the kitchen check. We took her suggestions and chose the food we wanted for our...more
When in Bantayan Island, even if you are not booked in Anika Resort, you should try having lunch or dinner in the restaurant! Really great food! Pre-order if you must so that you would not have to wait long!We loved the Adobong Pusit, (sauteed squid with vinegar and toyo) really flavorful and soft! The Sinuglaw, a two-way dish of Sinugba na baboy...more

My friends and I wandered outside the resort to find a place to have breakfast.A lot of bars and restos are found around and because of that we can’t decide where to eat. Then, I was caught by the design of this restaurant, having a number of jerseys & international flags hanging in the resto’s ceiling. It’s very colorful and unique. The jerseys...more
It's our last night to enjoy the awesome paradise in Bantayan island.
My friends and I are walking along the shore when we saw this luminous bar.
I was fascinated by the signs posted in the bar when I took a closer look so I asked my friends to spend some time here and they agreed.
Yooneek Bar and Restaurant has its own resort, but the bar and resto is open for all.
It's 2 weeks before the Valentine's Day that's why red cupids and hearts are decorated within the bar that added the feeling of inviting anyone passing by. The signs/ boards posted on the bar's walls are very kinky and funny. Big heart shaped lanterns are hanging around the kubo (hut).
During ordinary days in Bantayan Resort, you won't hear any sound of music playing, only the sounds of waves and I find it very relaxing. Along the beach, only the Yooneek Bar and restaurant is alive with its luminous colorful lights surrounding the bar.
My friends and I got time for bonding- the conversations we had during that night with the sounds of waves and a cup of coffee is one of my fondest memory.

During Holy Week Bantayans as well as other Filippinos are gathering in Bantayan town to attend the Lenten Procession so accommodation is difficult to find. If you decide to be there you have to book well in advance.
The whole village participated in the festivity preparing the costumes, taking part in the parade or just attending. all of them were neatly dressed and strolling in the streets or dancing to the rythmic beat of the Sinulog tune played by loud speakers. After the parade they all took to eating the tasty barbecued meat and fish in the street or browsing at the local crafts stalls put up all along the main streets.
Schoolchildren dressed in fanciful costumes comprise the main body of the parade. They have been preparing for long for the impressive performance.
I caught them getting ready in the schoolyard and they pose for me more than eagerly giving me their best smiles!!

Unless you're staying at Ogtong Beach Resort, you don't need to visit Ogtong Cave and save your 40 pesos. There isn't much to see in the cave.
Here's the cave.
When we were about to board the ferry to Bantayan, we were approached by a man who offered a Grandia van rental for our return trip to Cebu City. The rate was for P2000 for our group (8 pax) although more expensive than just taking the bus, decided to go for it.
However after spending a restful vacation in Bantayan, we were met by an innova van instead of the agreed Grandia van! With our bags there was not enough space for all of us. After much discussion we took pity on the driver and agreed to use the van for our return trip to Cebu.
During the 3 1/2 - 4 hours trip, we found out that the porters would just make arrangements with those drivers who bring passengers to the port, therefore it would not be definite what van would be available to meet you! The 2000 rate that the porters will quote to you includes their P500 commission. They will also asked you for a tip for making the van arrangement!. The lesson is to contact the rental service directly.
We got the contact number of our driver and we used the services of their group for our Cebu city tour.

Try to travel light, because with all the transferring you're going to be doing, you'll have to carry your luggage around a LOT. Just bring your usual beach get-up. This is not a very populated a beach, do not bother dressing up. Bring your own toothpaste, toothbrush, and all your necessary toiletries, as the most you'll probably get is a bar of...more
Sometimes after Virgin Islands, boatmen will also take you to Halintagaan Island about 10 minutes from the island. Nothing fancy to see but it's a good opportunity to have a different Photo background. If you are willing to pay another entrance fee you can walk to a rocky shore and have a photo shoot there.
Most important acitivity you should do while staying in Bantayan island is to hop on to the virgin Island. You won't regret the long time you traveled just to get in Bantayan Island, so maximize your time to explore the nearby islands! I'll surely miss watching the sunrise, sunset, blue green clear water, the coconut trees, white sand, starfishes,...more
