    White Beach, Moalboal

by limledi Updated Nov 5, 2006

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

White Beach in Barangay Saavedra has just started to develop as a tourist destination. It is much more quiet around there and the environment retains its original beauty. At the weekend locals from all over the island enjoy the white sandy beach and the clear sea. This is a paradise for nature lovers and for those who prefer it quiet.

The small town of Moalboal is located on Badian Bay in the south-west of Cebu, abount 90 km by road from Cebu City. If it's a sandy beach you're looking for, it takes about 15 min by outrigger from the mainly rocky Panagsama Beach to the nearby White Beach, or you can take a tricycle for P150. Located on White Beach is Club Serena Resort, one of the best in the area. Nice, clean resort with restaurant, swimming pool & white sandy beach. Clear, pristine waters with numerous corals ideal for swimming & snorkelling .

    Orchid Gallery Mini-Zoo

Aside from orchids, you can also find animals like beautiful talking birds (Myna) & monkeys. It's main attraction are the wide array of beautiful orchids, the most extensive orchid farm I've seen in a 3.5 hectare lot. It's really worth checking out especially if you're fond of orchids.

    Panagsama Beach, Moalboal

by limledi Updated Nov 5, 2006

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

The small town of Moalboal is located on Badian Bay in the south-west of Cebu, about 90 km by road from Cebu City. Most tourist activity involves the neighbouring, flat Copton Peninsula, mainly on Panagsama Beach in the barangay of Basdiot, about three km from Moalboal. Many of the guests are divers attracted there by the excellent facilities: loads of dive shops, low prices and over 20 places to dive, including a beautiful house reef and, as a highlight, the teeming underwater world of the Pescador Island Marine Park just offshore.

    Carcar Town

by limledi Updated Nov 5, 2006

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Carcar, formerly called Sialo or Siaro is a gem of a town, having preserved some striking examples of colonial architecture both Spanish and American. Carcar was one terminus of the coal fed train that linked Cebu with this prosperous town. Carcar was originally located at Barrio Valladolid but because of frequent slave raids was moved to its present site, the church being built on a hill for greater security. On 23 May 1559, the convent of Carcar, under the advocacy of the Visitation of the Virgin, was established. Although the Augustinian council authorized the provincial to appoint a resident priest, the authorization was reaffirmed in 1601 and 1607 when Fr. Juan de Ricobayo was appointed to the position. Apparently Carcar remained a visita of the Santo Niño convent in Cebu. In 1611, Carcar was placed under San Nicolas and in 1617 became independent from it. From 1620 onwards, the ancient name Sialo or Siaro was not longer used in documents but instead Cabcar and Carcar. Carcar had an extensive territory reaching up to Tañon (Santander). In 1690 the territory was divided in two with Boljoon forming a separate entity with Oslob and Tañon as visitas.

    Swimming and Boating

by limledi Updated Oct 29, 2006

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Cebu White Sands in Maribago has a white sand beach & big swimming pool where you can take a swim or just sit idly while enjoying the beautiful scenery. Take a stroll in their beautiful garden grounds with a small bridge and fish pond full of big, colorful fishes. You can also play golf in their mini golf course. Restaurant is located near the lobby. Rooms are also available for those interested to stay the night. There are plenty of boats which can take you island hopping. So there are many options in this fine resort.

    ISLAND HOPPING, SWIMMING. DIVING

by limledi Updated Oct 27, 2006

    4.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Island hopping is very popular in Olango Island. It is a long island visible from Maribago and Marigondon. It has small white beaches and beautiful stands of palms providing shade. There's also an extensive lagoon which was declared a sanctuary for migratory birds in 1992, the first of its kind in the Philippines. Plovers, sandpipers and egrets are some of the birds which can be seen here. The best time for bird watching is October and November. Swimming and snorkelling can be done in the fish sanctuary which charges P50/pax. Unfortunately much of the coral has been destroyed by dynamite fishing. You can have lunch at the many floating restaurants dotting offshore. A bit costly though but plenty of fresh seafoods to choose from.

    Shopping and Dining

by limledi Updated Oct 27, 2006

A combination of food, drink and entertainment is drawing more and more people into so-called 'resto bars' and 'sport bars'. Ayala Entertainment Center is one such venue. This is also one of Cebu's top nightlife spot. During daytime, you can enjoy shopping to your heart's content. There's also children's Timezone where they can enjoy playing games. Definitely my top choice in Cebu with regards to shopping with plenty of choices to choose from. Cinemas are located at the top floor in this huge complex.

This amazing example of a Spanish farmhouse just as it was on colonial times is a must visit in Cebu.

Original furniture in Spanish style and the building itself turned this visit out to be one of the most interesting ones in Cebu.
