Banawe Warnings Or Dangers

We did NOT encounter any aggressive dogs in Banawe. However, be very careful when holding food in your hands, as an otherwise friendly dog may decide to grab it for himself, miss, and bite your hand instead. Unfortunately, that happened to me - my skin barely broke, but that's enough for a rabies infection, and more unfortunately, Banawe has one of the highest incidents of rabies in the Philippines.

And so I had to get the 1st of 5 anti-rabies shots within 24 hours (day 0). Still more unfortunately, the closest available pharmacy stocking anti-rabies shots (P1,400-1,900) is in Solano, Nueva Vizcaya, one-and-a-half hours away. The clinic in Banaue can give the also necessary anti-tetanus shot, though. (The other anti-rabies shots are needed on days 3, 7, 14, and 28.)
