TOUR THE WORLD HERITAGE SITE BY THE KALESA

by davidjo Updated Mar 6, 2014

    KALESA

The kalesa is a horse and cart that are still used today. The driver sits up front while the passengers sit on a seat in the carriage. These can be hired from the cathedral or you can flag them down anywhere and either hire them to your destination or hire per hour. Particularly beautiful at night when the old Spanish Quarter is illuminated !!!

    ♥Home Sweet Home♥
North will always be the closest place in my heart coz i hail from here.
I was born here, i was raise here and it is always sweet to be home.
Doing the same thing, visiting the place over and over again does not bore me. Not a bit.

the big churches, the numerous beaches where you can swim for free. yeah, you read it right, free. no entrances to swim in the South Chine Sea, lots of museum, places to eat,
and most of all the Vigan Heritage - Spanish-era preserve road at Calle Crisologo...and now the new highlight of visiting Vigan is the Dancing Fountain at the heart of the city. Colorful and lively!

    Lagoon Area
    2 more images

Sometimes, I wanted to feel alone because of an unwanted thought that my mind forced me to think...I searched for a silent place wherein I can resolve my problems...A silent place....

This Lagoon is in the center of the City. A silent and very solitude place at night wherein you can only see the fountain and enjoy the atmosphere it wanted you to feel...

Most of the time, I hanged up here with my siblings or with my cousins and friends.

Just merely enjoying the beauty of the place, for sure, you will find the calmness and silence of your soul.

The zoo lies in hectares of land that stretches from the rolling plain towards the hills, where the former governor’s multi-storey house sits with a grand view of Vigan and the South China Sea.

Within its private area is a landscaped garden complete with its own nature pools. However, the area open to the public has plenty more engaging attractions that visitors can busy themselves with aside from the mini zoo. There is a butterfly farm, a track for horse riding and a skeet shooting range. ---Vigan.com.ph

Several blocks of the old Spanish quarter is now a Unesco World Heritage site and buildings are kept in their original state. Crisologo St is the main street which is closed to traffic except for the kalesa (horse and cart) which you here frequently as they pass by on the cobbled streets. There are many souvenir shops, restaurants in this area and you can easily spend a half day here. The street is lit up at night, makes for a good foto.

    DINING TABLE

The town of Vigan is a world heritage sight and there are several museums to visit but we chose the Crisologo Museum which was an old large magnificent wooden building housing many antiques including an old american car that the governor Carmeling Crisologo was nearly assassinated in the latter part of the 20th century. The dining room has been kept in its original state, the dining table has to be seen to be believed, seats many guests. Having seen museums all over the world i rarely visit them anymore but i was glad i took the time to visit this one, really enjoyed it. Admission is free and 8.30-4.30 Tues- Sat (closed 11.30 - 1.30 for lunch).

    Visit Local Tourism Council

by cyndymc Updated Nov 21, 2011

    Ilocos Sur Local Tourism Office

I cannot overemphasize the importance of taking a few minutes to visit the Vigan Tourism Council at the Municipal Hall or the Ilocos Sur Tourism Information Center nearby Calle Crisologo, especially if you are in Vigan for the first time for a DIY tour. We (hubby & me, and eldest daughter) were with a tour group when we went to Vigan so we didn't have any problem about looking for places. But my youngest daughter and her friends went there on their own, not knowing anyone, and knowing the places only through internet researches. They first went to the Local Tourism Council, and they were given maps and brochures and they were oriented on the local transportation and regular prices of the tricycle and kalesa. Armed with basic info about Vigan and the assurance that they have someone/somewhere to run to for help, they enjoyed a hassle-free vacation.

In case the office is closed when you go there, you can ask the security guard for a map of Vigan, You can also ask him questions regarding basic concerns like transportation.
