For me, visiting the La Union Botanical Garden is always a nostalgia...the plants that used to linger around our house when i was a kid, I found them on this garden...Actually, La Union Botanical Garden is a group of themed gardens that will satisfy your eyes with lush greenery...and satisfy your curiosity with its winding paths...Trails will lead...more
This is one of my favorite beaches in San Fernando, La Union...just because it's clean, safe, and the sunsets are fabulous. Very safe beach for kids to swim at...lots of cottages and rubber tubes on the shore for rent...or you can just bring a beach mat and umbrella and hang out on the sand...depending on the month of your visit, waves can vary....more
Unlike its counterpart in Baguio City, tourists can actually take photos inside teh temple. Aside from paying homage to Mama Ma-Cho, one can also have their fortune told through the "sin-pue". I asked the keeper their how to do it, but the language barrier prevented us from communicating. but he was kind enough to point out teh written instruction...more
If you walk up Gapuz Zigzag Road behind the town plaza you can get some great views of San Fernando , the ocean and the surrounding area. Plus you get a nice breeze most of the time. Freedom Park is there too. Nearby is the museum which is temporarily being housed in the Capitol Building due to a fire. (2001) But there are interesting artifacts to...more
I was not really hungry by the time we got to the Thunderbird Resort. I just needed to rest after a 2-hr bus trip from my hometown, Santiago. But, it was tempting to go to the restaurant so I decided to go for brunch instead. It was almost eleven o'clock. At first, Tata was hesitant to order because she looked at the menu's prices first. I told her...more
While staying at the Thunderbird and meeting with my friend, I asked my friend who was working in San Fernando, La Union, which restaurant has the best food. He recommeneded Oasis Restaurant and Kaw Bin's Restaurant.I was treating my cousin Tata, my friend's driver and personal assistant. We were all starving waiting for my friend to finish her...more
What can I say than "YUMMY!" It was such a delight to have drank the most awesome fresh pineapple juice! And, guess what? I didn't have it in Hawaii or in Baguio where they grow pineapples but of all places, I tasted the best pineapple juice in San Fernando, La Union!I am not exaggerating but it's so true. Maybe, I have been stressed for the whole...more
An irritating thing that happened to me going to the Thunderbird Resort. I stopped by the National Highway at the junction going to Poro Point where the resort was located. I went to the parking lot of the tricycles (motorbike with a cab attached to it, kind of the tuktuks in Bangkok. This is one of the most popular mode of transportation in the...more
The reason I titled this page"San Fernando the long way!" is that I was in Baguio and had planned to go to the Mountain Provinces for a couple of weeks hiking in the Rice Terraces but when I got up in the morning I was feeling a bit worn out and decided that the beach sounded better so I could relax! LOL So I got up early in the moring and wandered...more
If you forgot to bring your own bathing suit, there are available ones at the souvenir shop at the Thunderbird Souvenir Shop.
What to buy: Suntan lotion, toothpaste, toothbrush, soap, shampoo, bathing suits, souvenir items
What to pay: It's more expensive than those located in the city proper. So, if you didn't have enough money to buy, you can drive to the city proper. It's cheaper.
The local people that attend this Temple will place offerings. There are alot of Chinese/Filipinos in the area. This Temple is unique as the religion is a Taoist,Catholic,Chinese mixture!! I've only gone here for the wonderful views and don't really know much about the religion.
My favorite thing to do in San Fernando City is LIVE...it is not so much of a tourist spotit's close to the beaches, it's close to the mountains, fresh food, dining, shopping, and transportations are close, health care and schools are accessible, and the city exerts efforts in maintaining the peace and cleanliness of this place... What I miss the...more
