    The Leaning Tower

    by pres_16 Updated Sep 16, 2014

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

While walking to the beach of Luna early morning, all I thought was that we are just to do our first activity for the 2nd day of our pilgrimage. I had no idea about the site and so when our group arrived here, this tower really caught me by surprise. This structure may not be that huge and tall like the leaning tower of Pisa, but ruined and historical structures like this have always attracted me and made me curious why and what it had been built for. This tower, as I have researched, was built to serve as lookout point for impending attacks by the pirates. It is said that quarrying activities of the residents have contributed to the loosening of the tower's foundation causing it to split in two. But the community have done their part to preserve this and have expressed their strong desire to not lose the historical landmark of their place.

    Pindangan Ruins

    by pres_16 Updated Sep 10, 2014

Pindangan Ruins is the vestige of the oldest church that was built in May 6, 1786 that symbolizes the union of two sitios, SAN VICENTE DE BALANAC, a coastal village, and SAN GUILLERMO DE DALANGDANG, a village at the foothills of mountains, both desiring for mutual protection against their assailants, the pirates and the headhunters through Fr. Jose Torres in 1759. The settlement was named as Pindangan which was derived from the Ilocano word Pindang, a traditional method of drying fish in the locality. On the same date, May 6, 1786 that Pindangan was founded as Ministerio de San Fernando in Honor of King Ferdinand of Spain. The church was damaged due to the earthquake that occurred in the year 1892. #sanfernandocity.gov.ph

    Surfin' Philippines

    by semper.max Written Nov 27, 2011

If you are looking for a surfing destination in the Philippines, especially for beginners, then head off and hit the waves at San Juan, La Union. Here, you can get a lesson from trained surfers. Surf rental is also available. Although they have a standard price for the lesson and the rental of the surfboards, you can actually haggle for a better price especially if the beach is not too crowded with surfers. Don't expect to haggle on a summer weekend though...

    surf surf surf!

    by Jimbo222 Written Feb 27, 2011

Surf! I went to two beaches where you can surf. I don't remember what the name of the beaches were but it's something you can take note of when you're around the area and waves are too high in one beach; you can move to check the other beach. Around 15-20 minute drive to each other.

    Daily provincial life.....

    by Monster78 Written Mar 7, 2007

    3 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Our group set up a christian medical mission in a town within La Union. Unfortunately, I don't recall the name, but it's part of the area receiving fresh clean water from the recently built water wells of the Living Water project.

During a break, I photographed a wonderfully made carabao; a quintessential symbol of provincial life.
