The Tabernacle Gets Wet W/ Half-finished Roof

As mentioned, the San Juan de Bautista Church is still undergoing repairs/renovations. Catholics who have gone there for visita iglesia, upon seeing the dismal state of the church especially when it was still roofless, voluntarily donated cash for the church repairs.

If you happen to pass by, please help by donating whatever you can afford. Although the galvanized iron sheets and trusses have been set up, there is still much to be done.

San Juan de Bautista Church

Kalayaan Church is also known as San Juan de Bautista Church. The centuries-old church structure has seen better days, as it had experienced the ravages of natural calamities. It is one of the poorest parishes in the province of Laguna; their Parish Priest often has to go from one Parish to another to beg for contributions just to gather money for basic repairs like its roof.

When we went there, the church was closed, being a Monday, which is the restday of the priest and church staff. Fortunately, the sacristan mayor saw me and my husband taking pictures of the church exterior, and he was kind enough to open the church doors for us. Once inside, the first thing that caught my attention was the roofing; galvanized iron and trusses were already set up. Funds are still being raised for the church repairs/restoration.

A popular tourist spot in Kalayaan is the San Juan Twin Falls, also called Kalayaan Twin Falls. It is located at the foot of the mountain, on the eastern part of Barangay San Juan. It is called Twin Falls because on both sides of the forest clearing, the cool water cascades directly into two catch basins or mini pools.

Water from the catch basins cascade straight to the man-made pool. On one end of the pool is a grotto of Blessed Mary, with water cascading down from it. The caretaker said the locals believe that the falls has healing effects. Though they cannot say how this happened, the falls still attracts tourists and faith believers.

Picnic huts may be rented for P300 for family picnics. Entrance fee is P40/adult; P20/child. Overnight stay is P100. Parking fee is P10/vehicle.
