Blue Ribbon Divers Restaurant: Fantastic food

    by CEP1863 Written Aug 6, 2014

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

I had dinner here on two occasions. The staff are amazing, incredibly friendly polite and helpful. Service indeed was first class. The menu was extensive and there was plenty of choice for me as a vegetarian. On the first occasion, I had vegetable tempura; there was a good variety in the selection of vegetables used and the batter was very light and crispy. had the full intention of trying a desert but the portion was so large and also so tasty that I did not have room! The second time that I ate here saw me choose sweet and sour vegetables. Again, there was a good selection of vegetables included and the sauce was freshly made and spiced to perfection.

They also offer a couple of evenings a week with a barbecue buffet and live bands playing as well as the traditional Sunday evening English roast (if you like that sort of thing). If I am honest, it would have been very easy to have eaten here every night (and many people did), the only thing that really stopped me was the fact that I really enjoy going and trying different restaurants.

Over the period of time that I stayed in PG, this seemed to be by far the most popular venue on Small La Laguna beach and from my experience, it is very easy to understand why.

Favorite Dish: The vegetable tempura was brilliant - an excellent range of vegetables cooked to perfection in a really light batter.

    Vesuvio's Pizzeria: Great tasting pizzas

    by CEP1863 Updated Aug 4, 2014

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

A tiny place with very limited seating, this place is a gem if you are looking for great tasting pizza. The wood fired pizzas done in the traditional italian wood oven makes all the difference. The pizzas were well cooked with a thin base, the edges were nice and crisp and the bottom was not at all soggy. The toppings are fresh and tasty and generous in terms of quantity. The pizzas come in three sizes - small is plenty for one, medium can be shared by two and large which would easily feed three adults. Prices were very reasonable with a medium pizza coming in at around 500PHP. If you cannot decide which to choose then they will make half the pizza with one set of toppings and the other half with a different set. There is a notice on the menu that if you do not enjoy your pizza you will not be charged.

This is definitely somewhere I would recommend if you fancy a pizza.

Favorite Dish: Quattro formaggi - the cheese was plentiful and full of flavour.

Papa Fred's Steakhouse: Spoilt for choice

    by CEP1863 Written Aug 4, 2014

This was recommended to me as a place worth trying. The restaurant is situated on the second and third floors and entrance is via a set of stairs. I was quickly seated and opted to sit on the balcony on the third floor giving me a lovely view of Sabang beach. The waitressing staff were friendly and attentive. They also provided diners with a bell on each table for diners to ring and so get prompt service. The menu was very extensive and if you are a meat or fish eater then you will be spoilt for choice with the huge array of dishes. As a vegetarian, I found that there was sufficient choice and I opted for the pasta primavera. The dish was very well cooked, the pasta was just right and the dish was full of flavour.

The restaurant was very busy, yet it had a really nice atmosphere, the waitressing staff were hard working and very busy and service was with a smile. This is somewhere that I would return to.

The Verandah: In a different class!

    by CEP1863 Written Aug 2, 2014

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Located on the third floor in the Out of the Blue Resort on Small La Laguna Beach, the Verandah is arguably one of the more elegant dining options in Puerto Galera. There is a small balcony that offers those who eat outside a stunning view of the bay. The atmosphere is relaxed and the waiting staff are attentive and courteous. The menu is varied, although the vegetarian options are disappointingly limited. There is an extensive wine list with prices to suit all pockets. The food is freshly prepared and worth waiting a little longer for. It is very well presented and tastes as good as it looks.

Prices are slightly higher than the average but are still represent excellent value for money. This is definitely a restaurant to visit if you want something slightly more elegant than what the majority of restaurants in PG offer. Despite the limited vegetarian options, I will definitely return.

Access to the restaurant is via a steep set of stairs and so is not for anyone with walking difficulties.

Favorite Dish: Turon with Calamansi and Pandan Cream.

This was simply a dessert to die for! Fried jackfruit and banana cooked in a thin crispy wrapper and served with a creamy calamansi sauce with pandan.

Big Apple Dive Resort: Tried to eat here but ........

    by CEP1863 Written Aug 2, 2014

I stopped here early one evening for something to eat as they had a varied menu. I was seated very quickly in the restaurant area and managed to quickly order a drink and get a menu. This, unfortunately was as good as it got as I was totally ignored by the waitressing staff (as were another couple who were also trying to order). In the end I gave up, paid for my drink and left. This is clearly a venue where the waitressing staff are only really interested in serving single, older men.

Hemmingway's Bistrot: Service with a smile

    by CEP1863 Written Aug 1, 2014

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

This small bistro is situated right on the beachfront and so affords the diner a beautiful view. The menu was extensive and varied but if you are a vegetarian then you are very limited in choice.

Service was good and the waitresses very very friendly and attentive. I opted for the Pasta Arrabiattia and was given the choice of spaghetti or tagliatelle to have with the sauce. All meals come with soup and a salad as well as coffee and a brandy.

The pasta was cooked very well but the sauce left much to be desired, it was extremely hot (which I can handle) but there was very little flavour as there was very little in terms of either garlic or tomato. Overall, I found this dish to be somewhat disappointing.

Overall, this is an expensive place to eat at when you compare prices to other restaurants in PG. I do not consider myself to be a person who will baulk at paying more for a quality meal but on the night,I did not feel that it was really worth the price.

Le Bistro D'Agathe: Superb french cuisine and bakery!

by Charmanj Updated Apr 4, 2011

An excellent restaurant with great food, quiet surroundings, right on the waterfront with a very friendly owner "Patrice".
This restaurant is actually in Puerto Galera, not Sabang like many of the others listed. It has a good selection on the menu, including many European dishes and filipino dishes.
Great for a latte and a chocolate croissant in the morning while reading the paper or watching the world go by...
It costs a little more than some of the other restaurants but it is well worth it especially as you get a nice little serving of terrine (pate) for free too.

Favorite Dish: My favourite dish has to be the Brazilian steak I think, although it's a close run thing with the caesar salad and blue marlin. It comes with mini roast potatoes and is absolutely delicious, cooked only the way the french can cook a steak - to perfection!

Luca's Cucina Italiana: Food trip again at Talipanan's only Italian Resto!

    by santeria01 Updated Feb 15, 2011

Luca's is the only Italian restaurant in Talipanan. Owned by an Italian (duh!), we had our dinner here after some boulder hike and beach soak. We initially ordered the seafood marinara. It was a huge serving! I was totally full even before our Luca's signature pizza arrived (which is also huge!).

    Favorite Dish: Seafood Marinara pasta!

Mengie's: Relaxation & food trip jive so well at Talipanan!

    by santeria01 Updated Feb 14, 2011

We arrived at Talipanan before lunch time. We immediately headed to the nearest open resto (Mengie's, just beside our place heehee) We were greeted by a big smiling lady who immediately talked to us in English. We had Chicken Teriyaki and Chicken Adobo.

Chicken Adobo is OK, but the Chicken Teriyaki was awesome! I highly recommend that food when you visit Mengie's :-)

Pirates Bar and Restaurant: The Best Fish and Chips in Muelle!

by sherleh Updated Apr 8, 2009

It's a small resto and bar at Muelle, owned by a funny and friendly Australian guy John Dawson. They serve fish and chips, chix n chips and of course, liquor. Inside, there are high chairs and tables, swivel chairs and a small bar and you can also find things that are pirate-related. We really loved the way they served beer - with stubbie coolers! Check out the pics!

Favorite Dish: The fish and chips! At first, I thought it was quite expensive for something that will not fill me up ( I am a rice person). But it was satisfying ( and great with beer, too!)- making it worth the money.

    Sharkeez Pizzeria: Hmmm... Pizza!

by sherleh Updated Apr 8, 2009

This is a small Italian Resto/bar at Muelle Port. They serve thin crust pizza with choice for vegetarians and meat lovers alike! Prices are modest, not too pricey. They also serve wine and beer and cocktails. The waitresses were also friendly.

Favorite Dish: We tried the pepperoni pizza -drizzled it with olive oil - and it was good! Also best with beer!

There's a glass window in the bakery where you can see the bakers at work. I was pretty surprised to see a bakery with this concept on the island.

Favorite Dish: All the pastries that my friends and i tried were good. I can't remember what i had but it's a local pork bun.

Fernando's Seaside Cafe: Seafood are the Best!

by moymoydtraveller Written Feb 13, 2008

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Fernando's Seaside Cafe menu offers a lot, if you want american or continental breakfast they have it, which will only cost about 100 pesos, for lunch they offer seafood like squid, fish. For 200 per person you will definitely satisfy your hunger! The whole strech of white beach has a lot of local resto which almost has the same menu.

Lenly's Bar and Restaurant: To share food

    by cookie-sweetie Written Jun 12, 2007

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

We ate at Lenly's for lunch. It's a very good choice because we were there the night before for dinner and the servings were big. Even if you ordered for a rice topping, they will separate the rice from the viand and the viand can be shared among yourselves.
We also ate at Fernando's upon docking. And it's a huge mistake. Servings were small. The chicken kebab was half-cooked. Although their free soup was unlimited. The food was really not palatable.

Favorite Dish: chicken/ pork cordon bleu, spaghetti, soup and others.
