Tamaraw falls by StefanosS From Puerto Galera you have to drive south along the east coast of Mindoro island about 15km to be at Tamaraw Falls. It is a beautiful recreation area, much different from the scenery you are used to see in Philippines. Leave a Comment

Stonefish is probably the most dangerous of known venomous fish and its venom causes severe pain with possible shock, paralysis, and tissue death depending on the depth of the penetration. Lets test you eye see whether you can spot the fish? I have seen stonefish while I was diving in Malaysia, but mostly from 6-10 feet kind of distance and will not be as up close and personal when I am starting to take underwater photographs of them. I do have prior knowledge that they are venomous, but not known that they could be the most venomous fishes ever described (from net). Till now, I still can feel the chill down my spine when I recall that I almost landed my hand on one of them during one of my wreck dives Advice to divers: If you aren't sure what could be dangerous? The golden rule will be those creatures that look utterly ugly, weird and with striking colors, ever blue & green are indicating they are dangerous. Leave a Comment

Sabang Beach by ahoerner Sabang Beach is the entry beach for those who arrive from Batangas. It has many restaurants, inns, diving shops and shops of all sorts. It's where the "urban life" on this side of the world can be seen. From here, you have three options: to walk, to take a tricycle or to take the famous jeepneys. Leave a Comment

The Common Lionfish has very long pectoral and dorsal fins. The body is covered with red to black bands on a pale background. This species has extremely venomous dorsal fin spines. When disturbed by a diver it often makes little effort to swim away. Instead it points its dorsal fin spines towards the intruder. One more observation from me when I am doing the underwater photographic is lionfishes do have can't be bothered attitude towards divers and they will just slightly glide away when too many divers or too many camera flashes get them. Advice to all divers, please find out list of venomous fishes/snakes at dive sites of your choice prior to your dive to avoid any potential dangers. You can always ask the local dive masters or dive instructors for potential dangers before every unique dive spot. Leave a Comment

FISHERMEN by Graecia The thing about Puerto is its full fo fish. Its soo rich. We even saw dolphins passing by on our way there. So my tip is be kind to the fishermen , and Im sure you could talk them into bringing you with them when they go fishing but you have to wake up really early. Its a very cool experience. Nudibanchs can range from the size of few mm to close to 12cm. According to our dive instructor, Bob, he hasn't seen much of the black nudibranch with the distinct yellow partitions. He credited the sighting of this rare nudibranch to good luck diving with us. Click into the extra picture and you will see one tiny nudibranch (as compares to Bob's fingers) during one of our first day dives. The ability to spot some tiny and interesting objects underwater should be the natural progression for any divers. Of course the divers must learn to dive at ease and enjoy every minute underwater. Maintain your perfect buoyancy and drift along the current and look out for surroundings. Leave a Comment

Painted Anglerfish (Antennarius pictus) is often mistaken as Frogfish, but they are not the same except both are ugly & weird looking fishes. Often seem living around sponge & great in mimicking the sponges pores and oscules. The 2 front modified fins behaving like legs and sometime it will looks really acrobatic trying reaching out and hanging on sponges. The modified front fins also help in leaping on sandy bottom while the tail is always seem curled for no particular reason. Leave a Comment

I had a tough time finding just the right dive shop. Typically, I will look for 5-star PADI venues that have good equipment well-organized. This strategy kind of failed in Sabang because of an unusual feature of the place. NOT all dive shops share a common price. In every other place I've dived, there's a more or less set price that most shops adhere to. In Sabang, there is a very wide range from 900 pesos per dive to0 1700, equipment rental included. To complicate matters, some shops have their own hotels where you can get a break on room or dive depending on the deal and the whim of the people you talk to. I ended up at VIP divers, who is a partner to Action Divers. They were cheap, BUT! Although friendly on the surface, the underwater experience wasn't user-friendly. We rushed through sites, the equipment was spotty and the price mysteriously increased at the end... 3 strikes and you're out. A much better shop is the filipino-run Sea Riders. The extra 10 minute walk to Small La Laguna was worth it. Top notch equipment, top notch divemasters and a great attitude awaits. I mostly dove with DM Bong who has the eagle eyes of a local who has been plying the waters for years. He adapted himself to individual divers' preferences - from photographers like me to drift divers to deep divers. He's versatile and a nice guy just to hang out with.
