On White Beach, there are several things to do, such as renting a water skidoo or banana boat riding. We couldn't because they wait for a full load (10 or so) before going and we had to go. It wasn't overly expensive, 200 peso or so.

A few of the touts offer you a skidoo or similar item for usage. It's quite expensive, over 2000 peso an hour.

The water is quite clean at White Beach. With a snorkel, I had great visibility.

From White Beach I went to Cocobeach where I spent my night and 1 whole day . I just wanted to be away to the busy night life of White beach that time. This is the best part of traveling and what I always like to do, lying on a bamboo cottage while sipping my fruit juice and watching travelers pass by.

Puerto Galera boasts of 17 great diving spots. This island has a mixture of hard and soft corals. You can also try wreck diving and exploring the "Hole in the Wall". It's amazing that I saw a giant sea turtle when I went diving there.

Pacific Divers in Puerto Galera offers various dive programs, banana boat and snorkeling activities. They're affiliated with PADI and they offer certification courses. Try to visit their website for more information.

Try their Mindoro Sling

Night life is not complete if you will not try their Mindoro sling, a hot local cocktail mixed with slices of a apple on a pitcher with a long stick on it. I think it is a mixed of Rhum, mango , grandine syrup and sprite if I'm not mistaken. But I think, there are some other version on how to make the concoction. It is better to have a pitcher for 300 to 350 pesos if you are a group. Then if you are feeling something, you can just dance the night away.

Kayak @ White Beach

from a kayaker's point of view

BF and I went kayaking and paid 500 pesos (for an hour). We had to wear life vests and had to sign this waiver that the owners of the kayak will not be liable for anything that happens to us. It was fun, really. It was a first for me!

Ride (and Fall Off) the Banana Boat!

Banana Boats Galore

This is what I think is the most popular thing to do at Puerto Galera. It costs 200-250 pesos per head with a maximum of 8 people per boat for a few minutes. The motorboat will toss the passengers off the banana boat (who are wearing life vests, of course) in the middle of the ride.

A lot of female masseuses are around White Beach offering whole body and half body massages. A whole body massage will cost 200 pesos/hour only! The feeling is different and very relaxing while getting a massage under the shade of a coconut tree and hearing the waves at the same time. Just ask them to use coconut oil.

Mangyan Settlements

Mangyan (April 2007)

The Mangyans are the original inhabitants of Mindoro Island, and their culture is a virtually unbroken lineage that has spanned several millennia in this region. There is archaeological evidence that this tribe once occupied the coastal regions around Puerto Galera, though the colonial presence and the foreign diseases that accompanied them drove the Mangyan people to the interior highlands where they're found today. Counts suggest as many as 80,000 Mangyan live in the province. The Mangyan tribe consists of various smaller tribes like the Iraya, Alangan, and Tadwanan. They are skilled weavers and craftsmen, producing intricate tribal finery, including baskets, mats, and other items, both functional and aesthetic.

The easiest accessible Mangyan Settlements have been turned into tourist attraction. Globalization, which increased a materialistic lifestyle and attitude that sees consumption as the path to prosperity, have greatly contributed in the collapse of the culture of indigenous tribes. I visited a "Mangyan" settlement in Talipanan and I started laughing when I saw a billiard table in the middle of the village.

Original Mangyan settlements can be found on the mountain, away from our modern life centers. Keep in mind that it's essential to travel with a guide well-versed in Mangyan language and culture, as this elusive demographic does not always take kindly to outside disturbances. Visitors wishing to visit these people are advised to treat them with respect as they are not a tourist attraction…think about how you would feel to be treated by uninvited guests to your home and act accordingly!
