Don't Miss The Electric Masskara

Aside from the Masskara Festival, include the Electric Masskara in your itinerary. Held for two evenings at Bacolod City's Tourist Strip in Lacson Street, the Electric Masskara is gaining popularity among locals and tourists who go for beer drinking and street partying after the parade of floats carrying dancers with colorfully lighted costumes and head gear.The first night of 2010 Electric Masskara started late because of heavy rains. When the rain stopped, we hurried to the Tourist Strip to witness the festivities. Sad to say, we didn't enjoy that night. The crowd was rather rowdy, we couldn't get good photos. I wish there were more marshals for crowd control. I saw some managing the traffic rerouting, but I didn't see any at the area for dance exhibition so people shoved their way near the dancers.

Go For A Nature Trip To Murcia

Murcia is a small town about 25 minutes away from Bacolod City. It lies at the foot of a dormant volcano, Mt. Kanlaon. Murcia found its niche in the tourism industry when the Mambukal Mountain Resort became popular not only with local tourists, but with foreigners as well. With 28 heritage houses and a centuries-old church with a dome likened to St. Peter's Basilica in Rome, Silay City has earned the title of “Living City Museum”. The most popular ancestral house is the Victor Fernandez Gaston Ancestral House, also known as Balay Negrense. During Holy Week, many religious travelers go to the Silay Church, better known as the San Diego Pro-Cathedral for the traditional Visita Iglesia. Even on non-Lenten days, tourists go there to appreciate its architectural details.It won't take you 2 hours to tour Silay's old structures.

Hubby and I noticed that the popular fastfood outlets in Lacson Street didn't have many diners, compared to their outlets in other parts of the country that we visited, where there were many people whatever time of the day. The Jollibee branch offered free face painting during the Electric Masskara period, starting in the morning. I thought it was a creative way of attracting people to their place. So if you are into face painting, avail of Jollibee's promo.

Bacolod City Tour

It is so easy to tour Bacolod City. The places of interest are near each other so you can tour it in half a day, whether you ride a taxi or a rented car or jeepney, or even if you decide to walk. Of course, if you take time to take photos or shop for "pasalubong", or take a snack or meal, you'll probably need a day. In our case, we toured the city on foot in the morning of our first day. We just walked leisurely from Bacolod Business Inn to the San Sebastian Cathedral. We were surprised to see that just a few steps from it, there's the Palacio Episcopal and the City Plaza. Not far away from the Cathedral is SM Mall, but we didn't go there anymore. We wanted to spend more time for photo shoot and observing the locals, the flea market around the Plaza, and the souvenir masks sold by ambulant vendors.Early morning of our 2nd day, we rode the jeepney (Bata-Libertad route) from our hotel and...
