    Kayangan Lake

Kayangan Lake is located in the northern part of Coron Island. It is a must-experience place in Coron. To get there, you need to climb a not-so-steep slope by the side of a mountain and then down again to get to the lake. The view is breathtaking from the top! The lake itself is expansive. The water is very clear, with small fishes abounding.

There's a boat in the lake that you can hire to take you around the whole area. I would have liked this place more if there were fewer people. When we visited, there were more than 20 tourists so we didn't feel like we own the place (hehe, is that too much to ask?). Nevertheless, it's was enjoyable. :)

    THE WAY TO KAYANGAN LAKE

Kayangan Lake is on Coron island and many tourist agencies include t a visit on one or several of their trips, but since my visit in 1990 things have changed a lot. Before the boat anchored by the beach and we enjoyed some swimming and snorkeling but now there are a few native huts, and concreted paths where the boats anchor. Before we clambered up the side of the hill through bushes and then down to the lake. Now there are around 150 concrete steps up and another 150 down to the lake.

    SWIMMING IN KAYANGAN LAKE

As i mentioned in my previous tip things have changed since my last visit 20 years ago with the construction of steps to the lake and a wooden walkway at the side of the lake. When i was there before we were the only ones at the lake but now you can expect to see a minimum of 50 tourists there as the tourist bangkas usually stop for an hour there. All the same it is marvelous to swim in this salt water lake that is probably less than 100 meters from the sea.

    TIP
When you reach the top of the hill, just before you start your descent to the lake there is a ledge on your left. walk along this ledge a few meters and there are wonderful opportunities for photography as neighbouring islands and the ocean can be seen from here.

    Iconic Kayangan Lake

by IamPam Written Jul 27, 2014

The most photographed area of Coron is the view at the top of the Kayangan lake. To get to this, you have to hike 150 steps going up to the mountain and another 150 going down to the lake itself. for me, this was the highlight of our tour.
