Coron Island Things to Do

  • Kasadyaan Festival

The Kasadyaan Festival runs throughout the month of August in Coron in honour of their patron Saint San Agustin. Throughout August some streets around the towns coliseum are closed off and filled with stalls and fair rides as part of the celebrations. There are also a number of sports and dance competitions in which the different Barangays compete...

  • Dive or snorkel at Barracuda Lake

This has to be the craziest dive that I have ever done! Barracuda Lake is located in the North West of Coron Island, the lake has freshwater for about the first 4m and then turns to saltwater. It is a volcanic crater and as you approach by boat, you see the sharp craggy rocks that surround the lake. We were diving this at low tide which added to...

Coron Island Restaurants

  • Well I had a nice meal!

I was looking for somewhere to eat and found this restaurant. It is accessed via a long and narrow passageway at the side of the Seadive shop on the National Highway. The restaurant boasted good views over the water and so I decided to have a look. Once you have negotiated the passageway, you then need to take the stairs to the third floor of the...

  • Wide and varied menu

My decision to eat at Winnie's was based upon a recommendation from VT member Davidjo's page on Coron and a further recommendation from Karin at the Rock Steady a Dive Centre.I was greeted with a warm welcome and a complimentary dish of peanuts. The printed menu is quite limited but there is a blackboard on the wall with another 15 - 20 further...

  • Decent place for lunch

I stopped off here for a late lunch. Quite a small men with the standard Mexican fare - burritos, fajitas, quesiladas and nachos. There are only three tables and once you have placed your order you can watch the chef prepare your food just behind the tables in a small kitchen area. I ordered the nachos, they arrived quickly and there was more than...

Coron Island Nightlife

  • If you enjoy loud music

The Blue Moon Resto Bar is open from 07:30 until 02:00 daily. It is not a very big place and the loud music does make it quite deafening. Not a place to go if you want to have a conversation with someone! There is a menu which is limited and so makes it, in my opinion a suitable place for lunch but less so for dinner. I chose a cheese platter. It...

  • Decent Bar

This bar is right in the centre of Coron. There is a really nice atmosphere where locals and tourists readily mix. There is a menu if you want something to eat, I had the homemade potato crisps and they were really nice. The bar itself is quite small so it can get quite cramped. There is some seating outside but you are right on the street and...

  • Distracting Videoke

I wish videoke did not arrive at Coron. It destroys the peace and quiet of the night on a place where one should be away from all the hustle and bustle of the city life. To make it worse, the noise comes not from our accomodation but from the nearby accomodation. I think management of Darayonan should be sensitive enough to enclose the videoke in a...

If you wish to get around Coron Town easily then take one of the many motorised tricycles that are available. It is very easy to flag one down and they all charge the same price. • Nice t-shirts

This shop sells t-shirts that they claim are made in Coron. Coron Island Warnings and Dangers

  • "brown outs"

Coron is a rapidly growing town where there is a lot of development going on to accommodate the growing number of tourists. Unfortunately although there is an increasing amount of tourist accommodation either currently being built or very recently completed, the town's increasing need for electricity has not been fully addressed. "Brown outs" are a...

  • Jellyfish!!!

Well we were out snorkelling near Siete Pecados. I was quite tired so I was just hanging near the boat when I heard my friends happily shouting that they saw Nemo (a clownfish) and then I heard a scream.... a friend of mine saw a jellyfish with a head as big as a coconut swimming towards him. It was funny but do be careful - jellyfish sting hurts!

Coron Island Tourist Traps

  • bek_estanislao's Profile Photo

    by bek_estanislao Written Apr 11, 2008

Superferry Sailaway packages should have been hassle-free but it's not. First, the agent does not come on appointments. Second, the published rates indicated that full board meals on vessel is included but the delivered ticket indicated NO MEALS. Third, no response given by Superferry when I complained about these things.

Unique Suggestions: Plan your vacation ahead and reserve early to make allowances for any errors.

Fun Alternatives: Try to use the eTicket in superferry website instead and arrange for your own accomodation.

Coron Island What to Pack

  • No ATM's!

Beach Bag, a "rubber ducky" (it's a brand of a bag that can float in the water) as much as possible since exploring the place would be via boat where you can get wet if the waves are strong. To keep all your things / valuables protected. It is advisable to wear your swimming attire upon leaving for Island Hopping. Aqua shoes is a must have when...

  • Sirenetta in Coron

Sirenetta Restaurant in Coron is a "floating" restaurant in the water with a good view. It's very breezy, but the flooring is actually very stable, and the ambiance is quite romantic at night. The price range for their pasta and pizza dishes starts at P200+ each. The staff are attentive, and the food is made to suit for foreign palate.
