CULION FORT

Culion was once the place that had a leper colony which was established in 1906 and received many lepers from different parts of the Philippines. It later became the largest leper colony in the world as the population increased to over 16,000 and scientists flocked here from all over the world to study the disease and eventually eradicate it. Visit the museum to learn more. The church, fort and sanatarium are all a few minutes from the pier and worth visiting. You will get a good view of the fort when you are approaching by boat. There is a lodging house here but you can organise a chartered boat from Coron or catch the local ferry, journey time, 90 minutes.

At the back of the church, you can have a view of the seas. The old bell is also displayed outside the church.
