    Balai Tubay: Beer, Rock, Reggae!!!

by ionaks Updated Jun 18, 2006

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

There really isn't much of a night life in El Nido... There are a few expat-owned places along the beach and elsewhere, but the coolest after-dinner hang-out would be Balai Tubay. It's too bad that they're not located along the beach, but here are the top three reasons why this place is not to be missed:

    3. Cold beer at an affordable price --- at P40 per bottle, beer here is already a bit on the high-end considering you can get them for half that price elsewhere in town. But all things considered, that's not too bad.
    2. Cool ambience --- set up by a group of local artists and musicians, the interiors of Balai just say "PALAWAN." It's simple in a very artsy yet unpretentious way, and cluttered with indigenous crafts and artwork by El Nido- based artists. Really cool...
    1. ROCK and REGGAE ON! --- local music group Islanen and friends dish out the type of music that's perfect in an island-setting. From original compositions to Pinoy reggae classics, to covers of the great Marley and classic rock tunes from the Beatles and Pink Floyd and even The Police and U2 (my personal faves!) Sure, they kinda miss the lyrics sometimes, but that's no big deal. I love the way these guys just jam and have a ball performing. On some nights, not even the lights going out at 1 am stops the fun. Hell, all you need are some candles and voila, we have an acoustic session going on! With that cold beer in your hand and surrounded by happy locals and tourists having a great time, it's all good!

    DINING: ART CAFE

    by sheila2097 Written Oct 3, 2008

Art Cafe is the most popular place in El Nido. The food is good, perfect! I love the Seafood Pizza, garlic shrimps and the pesto pasta(which is not included in their menu). The price is okay, taste of pizza.. u can compare it to the taste of CPK. The owner is a European girl married to Pinoy. They're nice and cool! Since it's off peak, we're the only Pinoy guests in the resto. Mostly are Europeans & other foreigners who stayed long in El Nido. The resto is in 2/f. On the G/F, they have a lot of cute souvenirs you can buy

Dress Code: None but you have to remove your shoes or slippers before entering the resto

    Pukka Bar: Reggae Nights

by heydelin Written Apr 18, 2014

There are couple of nice bars that we like in El Nido. One is Pukka Bar where a Reggae band performs every night at 8pm. This restaurant/bar is pretty famous so be sure to be there early so you can have seats! Another one that we love is Sea slugs where we ate our breakfast in the morning and drink our bourbons at night. Unfortunately there were nights that these two bars won’t have seats for me and Anth so sometimes we settle to those less lively bars along thee beach.

Balay Tubay: Reggae music in town

    by anliz99 Written May 6, 2008

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Balay Tubay has a nice reggae/local music set up. They actually have live bands every night. Great character to the place.

It would have been perfect if the place is located on the beach and open to sea breeze. As it is, it can get pretty hot at night.

Art cafe restaurant & bar: Nice and good atmosphere

by shavy Written Feb 7, 2015

Of our last night in town, we went to this place, is one of well-known cafe in El Nido. We were too early, we thought we'll just have a drinks before having dinner. It was around 6 pm. Inside plenty of people already having dinner, we're sitting near the bar, we only have some cocktails

The lady owner were very friendly, she is not local Filipino as I heard she is Austrian I'm not so sure. She speak perfectly Tagalog a local language. The interior of this cafe were very nice and the bar has an attractive decoration

Local girls are still very young who stand behind the bar, very friendly as well. The price is not cheap compare to other place in El Nido. But we enjoyed the atmosphere and the friendliness of the staff. Even though there were busy serving food to other customer, our order was served quickly

Miniloc Bar: Get Drunk and Happy

by greensalad Written Dec 11, 2006

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

No, don't give my title a negative connotation. One of my friends from the IT industry said that the only place where she can get drunk is in El Nido. That I fully understand.

I don't drink but I can see my companions getting happily drunk in Miniloc's bar. Because aside from there's no large crowd to bother you, you can take your beer or cocktail anywhere on the island (whether it be on the bar, on the beach side, or on your cottage). Their cocktails are okay. But then, the boring me drank only Bailey's. Haha!

With the beverages comes great music and billiards. You can even just hang out there until the wee hours of the morning. And when you're drunk, the cottages are pretty much there so you can crawl, er, walk your way to bed.

Dress Code: Beach wear, of course. Or whatever is comfortable for you.

Balay Tubay: Rockin' Place in El Nido

    by DJ_RO Written Oct 12, 2006

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

It is like a mini "Saguijo" but in Paradise. Bong the owner was very friendly and explained to me what Balay Tubay means it is actually Cuyunin for My Father's House. You see a lot of the stuff here is pre-war taken from their house in Taytay, Palawan.

The clocks you see around you were actually shoe racks made from a certain tree(forgot the name). They have live music, cheap beer, a see-through booth that had a collection of DVDs(pirated hehe) for you to watch. From Led Zeppelin to John Denver. A must go for travelers in El Nido Town.

The New Zone & The Boom: Disco in El Nido? Hell yeah!

by Fakfak Updated Mar 1, 2010

You certainly didn't come here to party, but if you're tired of sitting at the beach with Bob Marley and tiki lights you can try the "Boom Disco House" or the "New Zone Disco And Karaoke Bar (Formerly Hardrocks)". Both are what I'd call a Filipino countryside disco, the music is loud and the alcohol flows. You'll meet a lot of locals there, it's fun! Curfew is at 12.30am!

BACUIT GRILL, BAR & RESTAURANT: HAPPY HOUR BEERS & COCKTAILS

by davidjo Written Apr 17, 2015

Bacuit Grill is at the northern end of the beach so we thought we would meet friends there for Happy Hour as we saw there sign in the morning. Happy Hour is from 5 pm - 7pm but we were shocked when we arrived punctually at 5 pm to be told that there were no cold beers !!!! UNBELIEVABLE. --- no 40 peso beers. However Happy Hour included cut price cocktails, so we had a few cocktails between us, although i am not really a cocktail drinker. I did have a frozen margarita and another daiquiri, found the shots to be very large and left the place feeling good. Cocktails run around 90 pesos.

EL NIDO CORNER RESTAURANT: HAPPY HOUR BEERS 30 PESOS

by davidjo Written Apr 17, 2015

We popped in here for a cup of tea in the morning and to be quite honest we were disgusted at the price----60 pesos for a very small cup, but we did notice that there was a Happy Hour from 4 pm - 6 pm so vowed to return and drink the bar dry. We did so that evening while we watched the sun go down. The beers were ice cold- a completely different experience than our morning visit. You will find this place at the northern end of the beach (the penultimate building) and it is a great place to view the bay and see the boats come and go.

GREAT VOICE AND GOOD GUITARIST @ THE RASTA BAR: GOOD MUSIC

by davidjo Updated Apr 17, 2015

While walking along the beach in search of dinner we came across the Rasta Bar which advertised itself as the only reggae bar in town, so we entered the place for a quick beer and to listen to the music. This particular night there was certainly no reggae music, perhaps the band changed later but we did enjoy the duo and the girl did have a great voice. You cannot iss this place while walking along the beach because of the psychadelec colors.

great voice and good guitarist just look for this sign the bar tables on the beach
