El Nido Things to Do

  • EL NIDO TOURIST OFFICE

We passed by the tourist office at 9.30 am and found the doors open and the place deserted, but too be fair there is so much information at the hundreds of agencies that it is not really necessary to visit this government office. There were no brochures or maps lying around. There were a couple of posters as you enter the gate which points out...

I came across this restaurant while enjoying some happy hour beers---3 for 100 pesos from 3 pm to 7 pm. Should you wish to have a fourth and not a fifth or sixth then you will have to pay 40 pesos which is still very cheap for El Nido. However my wife joined me a little later and we decided to eat. She had a grilled fish and rice while i had fish...

While walking along the beach in search of dinner we came across the Rasta Bar which advertised itself as the only reggae bar in town, so we entered the place for a quick beer and to listen to the music. Yes, no skimpy swimsuit on El Nido town's beach. It's really not like Boracay or other places. Normally, when you are on this beach, you wear shorts and shirt over your bikini. You just take this off when you are on your secluded island or beach :)

El Nido Warnings and Dangers

  • PARKING YOUR CAR

In the town of El Nido be prepared to find a place away from the beach if you have a car as the only place by the beach with a car park is Lally & Abets which is at the far end of the beach. Another place that is one block from the beach is Silverise which had parking space for one car. You could take a place on the beach and leave your car at your...

  • SALTY WATER

The water situation is not so good now in El Nido as the water that is supplied to most of the town is extremely salty, and if frozen to make ice it becomes a little spongy. Never drink the water from the faucet, always purchase bottled water.

El Nido Sports & Outdoors

  • by oxalis Updated Nov 28, 2007

I rented a kayak from the shop (the owner is a Frenchman) under O.G.G. Pensione for P$1,000 per day. In the afternoon, we (me, my guide and several other kayakers) were stuck on the beach opposite Bukal island because of the sudden violent wind (a typhoon was approaching). We were resued by a pumpboat in the late evening . The rescue crew who risked their lives struggling for several hours in the wind and darkness to save us was only paid P$1,500. However, the kayak owner charged me P$2,000 for the loss of a life jacket (which was not really my fault, as I swam across from Bukal island to the beach on Cudlao island, and my guide was supposed to carry everything over in the kayak). The kayak owner also collected P$500 from each of the four kayakers who had been rescued to pay the rescue team. Very unfair!
