San Jose to Port Barton Jeepney

Travelling to Port Barton can be easy and tricky!

We went by local bus which was headed for El Nido but they dropped us off at the intersection of San Jose where we then had to wait an hour or so for a jeepney that would take us the rest of the way to Port Barton as the road is quite muddy at times and regular buses would not get through it. That option cost us P300 each.

Another way is by taking a mini-van for P300 each (i think?) to San Vicente which is a bit north of San Jose and then you take a bangka boat to Port Barton. The boat should take just under an hour...BUT as we learnt (too late!), the cheap boat that the mini van driver suggested is not available during the high season and so the only boats available were P1500 each...very expensive for just a 40min trip!

So I would say the only way to do it right now is option 1. Its not terribly comfy, it's not luxurious and you'll definitely get sandy and dusty, but it is the Philippines and it's a fun way to travel!

To/From Manila: Cebu Pacific,Airphils Express & Zest Air flies to and from Manila everyday.flights takes an hour.

To/From Cebu:Cebu Pacific operates flights from Cebu to Puerto Princesa, four times a week.

By Sea From/To Manila:
It takes 18 to 22 hours from Manila on board the Superferry and Negros Navigation. Superferry route to Puerto Princesa once a week.

Around the city:tricycle or walking.Tricycles are these motorbikes like tuktuk in Bangkok, that can carry passengers up to 4 persons. From the airport,if you are still looking for a hotel to stay better take tricycles from the ROAD and not the one on the exit because they tend to ask a bit more, and the airport is just a meter away from the main road(highway). Then, negotiate with the driver to bring you to some hotels around(some drivers had a commission for every clients they can bring to a hotel),pay reasonably, fares for every person is 8 pesos per way.
Walking is also easy in Puerto because it is only a small city and thus everything is close to each other.

Airports

On Palawan there are basically only 3 airports that would be normal ports of entry, Puerto Princesa, El Nido and Busaunga. Unfortunately i have met more than one tourist who has flown to Roxas in Panay by mistake, and recently i was chatting to a tourist who said that after he leaves El Nido he will be returning to Roxas to fly to Manila. I informed him that there were no flights from Roxas, but he told me he already had a ticket with Cebu Pacific. I informed him that was Roxas in Panay, not Palawan. He spent the next hours on the internet trying to book a flight from Puerto Princesa. Many towns in the Philippines have the same name so check carefully when booking tickets.

A Bright idea that we have rather than make a booking for our City Tours, we rent a tricycle going to popular destination for the tourist. We don't have much time to visit the other places in the City we just budget it according to must see places.

The airport at Puerto Princesa.

Palawan is connected by air with the outside world by several airlines that flies in to Puerto Princesa.
I personally flew from Puerto Ptincesa to Manila with Seair that has a daily service on that route and they were very fine.
Cebu Pacific Air, Air Philippines and Zeest Air also flies to Palawan and from what i understand there are also charter flights between Korea and Palwan.
With Palawan being the talk of town in tourism the number of flights is set to grow rapidly in the near future though.

The airport is very small an they will need an extension as the number of flights grow cause the check in and waiting area is very small, but at least you won't get lost if you use that airport.
The airport is located right by the center of Puerto Princesa and is reached easily from the town center.

As far as I know SeaAir since October has a direct flight from Caticlan to Palawan but I think you must book earlier for the flight and flights are limited, I just saw their ads when I made a booking for Manila - Boracay flight.Better ask them for flight schedules.
