Climb and Camp-out at Mt. Pinatubo.
Mt. Pinatubo has erupted in 1991 after sleeping for more than 600 years blowing its top and forming a big caldera creater which in due time was filled with water and a lake was born. The eruption was so damaging that it turned Clark Air Base inoperational and letting the Americans abandon the air base.The crater lake could be reached from the take-off point from Sta Juliana, Tarlac in a 6-hour trek via a dry river of lahar formed by the flowing water from the lake. The hike is on almost flat ground but loose soil. Weekends are the usual throngs of hikers spending overnight at the campsite just by the crater - the atmosphere is somehow festive when night comes. The lake is about 3 km in diameter and the water is acidic. Swimming is a little hurtful to the eyes. Bring tents and cooking equipment, lots of water and food provision for hike/stay. The trail is extremely hot considering...
