Punta Riviera's Specialties (From Their Website)

If you are billeted at Punta Riviera Resort, you may eat at the bar/resto or pavillion or cabana. Since our Sunset Room had its own nipa hut-inspired cabana right infront of our door, we had our dinner and lunch served there. For breakfast, we ate at the Pavilion since the bar/resto was full. Eating at the cabana was like having a picnic with fantastic food. Having breakfast at the pavillion was nice because it had a nice view of the gardens, infinity pool and the beach.

Service was good, food was delicious; made our wait for food very worthwhile.

Favorite Dish: We know the food is really good when we keep on talking about it even after we've left the place. And we know the food is really appetizing when we all forget to take pictures of it ;-)

We loved their dinakdakan, Chinese spicy crabs, calamares, adobong pusit, halabos na hipon, Ilocano Pinakbet and baked mussels. Alhough the inihaw na liempo wasn't very tender, the grilled pork belly tasted so good.

The freebie breakfast was sufficient for a light breakfast: rice, scrambled egg, 1 pc fried "danggit", 1 pc hotdog and coffee. My grandson ordered an American breakfast: hefty-sized American sausage, scrambled egg, beans, toasted bread with butter and marmalade, and fruit juice. It looked so good that my hubby and daughter placed another order which they shared. I ordered tuna sandwich, and it turned out to be good for 2 persons.

Street Vendor: Japanese Mini Cakes

Japanese Mini Cakes of Bolinao

Another street food: Right behind the IUD & Pork BBQ being sold at the street are Japanese mini cakes. My daughter suddenly had a craving for the mini cakes because she imagined it would have the same taste as the ones she buys in the backstreets of Makati Business District. She bought 4 pcs. At first bite, she was disappointed because the taste was very different from what she's used to.

Favorite Dish: None

Bolinao Street Vendor: Ever Heard of IUD BBQ?

IUD BBQ

Al fresco bbq! As in other places in the Philippines, Bolinao has street vendors catering to all kinds of people. I couldn't help but check out what people where lining up for in the street corner. It was the barbeque vendor.

Favorite Dish: There is pork bbq but the most sought after bbq was the IUD, so called because the chicken's intestine is skewered in the shape of IUDs.

El Pescador Resort: Resort Restaurant in Poblacion

El Piscador Marker

Quite frankly, I was hesitant to post this, but am posting it just the same as a tip to others. We met a Manila-based local at the Church. I asked where was the nearest good restaurant. He recommended El Pescador which was nearby and which specialized in local foods and seafoods. It turned out his "nearby" estimate wasn't that near...or perhap, it was near by their standards but not for us.

When we saw the sign of El Pescador on the road, we didn't feel good about driving through the narrow road. And when we reached the place, it turned out to be a resort, not a seafood restaurant. When we entered the compound, it looked deserted, but at the farther end, we saw cars.

Then, we saw what looked like a restaurant. Only the resort's personnel were eating; no guests. We asked what can we order; they couldn't answer right away. Someone checked their kitchen for supplies before we could order.

We don't recommend this place for meals. The food tasted "blah"; surroundings weren't appealing.

Favorite Dish: None of the food we ordered are worth relishing.

Tummy Treats: Best restaurant in Bolinao

This is the only place outside of the high end resorts in Bolinao where one can get great food in big servings and reasonably priced too! The cooking is done by the owners/proprietors and the staff is friendly, efficient and personable. We did all our dining at this place when we were in Bolinao. If you knew us, that's saying a whole lot!

Favorite Dish: We loved their lumpiang shanghai, crispy fried chicken and their noodle dishes.
