Don't Eat the Kipings Yet

by yellowbell

The sunflowers made out of kiping (rice paper) are not only lovely to look at, they are also edible! Choose from yellow, pink and green kiping! The local officials will judge the best-adorned house so don't strip the houses of the kipings yet.You can buy a toasted kiping though and not get those that adorned the houses. Better yet, savor that Lucban longganiza (sausage).

Carabao (water buffalo)

by victorwkf

The carabao is an important animal in the Philippines as it is useful in the padi fields as well as a source of food for the locals. In Villa Escudero, the carabao is used to pull carts for transportation of visitors. When the carabao are not working, they are happily grazing in a nearby huge field or enjoying a dip in the water (see photographs). There is also a statue of a carabao pulling a cart at the entrance of Villa Escudero.

Christian Procession

by victorwkf

Philippines is predominantly a Catholic country and I was very lucky to be able to witness an exciting Christian Procession when I was at Villa Escudero. The procession started in Labasin River where there was a big raft which was colourfully decorated with people playing music instrument and there is a statue of Jesus. The raft approached the shore and many people carried the statue to the main area in front of the Coconut Pavillion where there was music and many local people gathering. It was really a carnival like atmosphere which was really a good experience for me. More photographs are at the travelogue section of this VT page.
