THE MARIKINA RIVER...... a stretch of fun!
try visiting the place in the afternoon where the sun is not so hot! you'll enjoy the walk beside the river, watching the fish... or the kids running around...

They have built a shopping center beside the river called The River Banks which houses various establishments of shoes, clothes, restaurants and even tiangges (small stalls selling assorted item on cheaper prices)

Church of Our Lady of the Abandoned

This is the first time I got to watch this kind of parade in Marikina, actually this is sort of like a tradition for the Marikenyos. Every Good Friday of the Holy Week, Marikenyos organize a procession where there are various floats of various saints (huge dolls / statues) and various depictions of the passion of the Christ. It was just like the Holy Week procession in other Roman Catholic dominated countries like Spain.

The procession starts right after the 4PM mass held in "Our Lady of the Abandoned" Church in Barangay Calumpang, Marikina. Loading the lifelike statue of Christ's body (Santo Entiero) in the coffin is the signal of the start of the procession.

I gotta tell you, the floats are too many it's crazy. My arms hurt with taking pictures of each float. There were 60 floats, not to mention floats coming from Sto. Niño Church, so there were likely around 70 floats total. I saw various apostles' floats, lots of saints, and also floats depicting the passion of Christ.

the Our lady of the abandoned is the patroness of Marikina ...visit her in her shrine (the our lady of the abandoned shrine). The icon of the our Lady is venerated by marikenos for centuries and was proven to be miraculous.
