If it were not for a TV feature on PACEM EcoPark, we wouldn't have discovered PCEM EcoPark's small paradise. There is a Butterfly Sanctuary & Museum, Shell Museum, Botanical Garden Mini-Zoo. It is run by the Assumption Sisters of Antipolo; a minimal entrance fee is charged for maintenance of the place.It is a rare experience to see Philippine Eagles fly freely and roam in the gardens. There are also monkeys swinging on the trees. You can also touch some of their exotic birds.See my Antipolo Travel Page for more info & pictures.

Fantastic View of Sierra Madre Mountains

From the small Rizal towns, consider going to Manila via Marcos Highway to avoid the traffic. We did just that after out trip to Tanay. On our way,we noticed a small park; we stopped over and realized we were at the Nature Lovers' Point of Garden Cottages, sanctuary of nature and wildlife. Unfortunately,the gate to the View Deck was locked. Nevertheless, we basked and gasped at at the beautiful sight of Sierra Madre Mountains.After feasting our eyes on the surroundings, we realized later that there were some couples snuggling in their own corners at the park.

A different perspective

To avoid the traffic at the South Luzon Expressway, we decided to take the longer route from Quezon to Metro Manila via the provinces of Laguna and Rizal, or known as the Eastern Loop.It may have been a long, boring drive if not for the winding road that will keep you awake and the scenic spots that dot the province. The drive will give you a glimpse of the Kalayaan hydrothermal plant; pass by Eksotik Restaurant that has snakes, turtle, wild pig, among others in its menu; take you to woodcarving town of Paete, and old churches of Rizal towns. In Jala-Jala, a paved area along the road serves as an observation point where you'll have a sweeping view of Laguna de Bay with the skyscrapers of Makati and Ortigas, and the setting sun as backdrop.
