    SUNDIAL OF HISTORY

by davidjo Written Jan 27, 2015

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Juan Sajid de Leon Imao was the artist who made this very interesting sculpture that can be found near the Singapore Embassy in Bonifacio Global City. In my opinion this is probably the best of the many sculptures to be found in BGC as it is large with many characters on the red cement ground, which represents a giant sundial. "Kasaysayan bawat oras" is the name of the sculpture and it means something like 'history every hour".

    BGC -- SCULPTURE---ANG SUPREMO

by davidjo Written Jan 27, 2015

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Ang Supremo is a brass and bronze statue was created by Ben Hur Villanueva as a tribute to Andres Bonifacio. From the distance it looks as if Bonifacio is raising his hand with a sword but when you get closer he is actually holding a crumpled piece of paper in his hand which is actually a cedula. The artist claims that Bonafacio became a hero, not because of his armed revolt but because he was intelligent. Villanueva also said the tearing of the cedula made during the “Cry at Pugadlawin” in August 1896 is a very important identification at that time, representing a blow to the colonial rulers.

BONIFACIO GLOBAL CITY, A CHANGE FROM MAKATI

by davidjo Written Jan 26, 2015

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Bonifacio Global City (BGC as it is known as) is a development on some disputed land between Makati and Taguig, but i have looked at the map and decided to include it on my Taguig pages. The dreaded Bonifacio Fort was here before but Bonifacio Land Corporation made a successful bid to develop the area along with their partners. There are many skyscrapers housing apartments, offices and hotels, as well as two shopping areas, market! Market! and Bonifacio High street. Most trendy restaurants, bars, clubs, and retail outlets are on Bonifacio's High Street, but they are dotted around the whole area. There is also the Mind Museum to keep you entertained, a few parks, sculptures etc. You will not find any tricycles here and only a few jeepneys run from the transport terminal, as it is mainly a/c vans that ply the routes in and out of BGC. the area is still being developed and you will see many sky-scrapers still being constructed.

    Forum South Global Complex

by machomikemd Written Aug 22, 2014

Among the New Strip Mall Type of Dining Complexes arising along the Luxe Fort Bonifacio Global City is the Forum South Global Complex. Among it's Restaurants and Bars are McDonald's, Skippy's, Pablo's, Koko Buri, Sarsa, Tipple & Slaw and Seven on 7th. The Dining Complex is located along Mc Kinley Parkway, Rizal Drive and Eight Avenue and lies a stone's throw away from the American Cemetery Manila. This strip has it's own parking area and most of the establishments here are new to the Dining Scene except for Koko Buri, which has a branch in Subic Freeport. This is a nice place for privacy and dates as it is far from the crowds of the Bonifacio High Street and SM Aura and Market Market.,

    Manila American Cemetery

by machomikemd Written Aug 21, 2014

the Manila American Cemetery, Located in the luxe Fort Bonifacio Global City, was formerly part of the Fort William Mckinley (now renamed Fort Bonifacio) of which large tract of land besides the Cemetery where sold by the Philippine Government to Private Investors and is now a Luxe Destination in the Philippines. This War Memorial and Cemetery that Honors American, Philippine and Allied Military Dead is one of the two largest WWII memorials in the Pacific (the other one is at the Punchbowl in Oahu, Hawaii, see my Honolulu Pages). This sprawling ground is about 62 hectares (152 acres). The Memorial, with a total of 17,206 graves, has the largest number of graves of any cemetery for U.S. personnel killed during World War II and holds war dead from the Philippines and other allied nations.

The Memorial is maintained by the American Battle Monuments Commission.and the area was donated by the Republic of the Philippines.

    Opens: 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. except December 25 and January 1.

    according to their website:

The Manila American Cemetery and Memorial in the Philippines occupies 152 acres on a prominent plateau, visible at a distance from the east, south and west. It contains the largest number of graves of our military dead of World War II, a total of 17,202, most of whom lost their lives in operations in New Guinea and the Philippines. The headstones are aligned in 11 plots forming a generally circular pattern, set among masses of a wide variety of tropical trees and shrubbery.

The chapel, a white masonry building enriched with sculpture and mosaic, stands near the center

of the cemetery. In front of it on a wide terrace are two large hemicycles. Twenty-five mosaic maps recall the achievements of the American armed forces in the Pacific, China, India and Burma. On rectangular Trani limestone piers within the hemicycles, are inscribed the Tablets of the Missing containing 36,285 names. Rosettes mark the names of those since recovered and identified. Carved in the floors are the seals of the American states and its territories. From the memorial and other points within the cemetery there are impressive views over the lowlands to Laguna de Bay and towards the distant mountains.

SM Mall's Foothold in Bonifacio Global City

by machomikemd Written Nov 4, 2013

this will be my things to do tips, I will have a separate shopping tip for it.

The SM Aura Mall is the second luxe mall of the huge SM Conglomerate, which has shopping malls, department stores, condominiums and residential lots and banks among it's diversified business. This mall again is the second luxe mall after the Podium Mall in Mandaluying City and this mall is disguised as a Mixed Used Mall with a huge civic center atop ( i will have separate tips for it) and a convention center and buidlings housing offices and local government of Taguig offices too. This mall is quite controversial too!

the mall sits along the edge of Bonifacio Global City and it faces the Ayala Corpotation's flagship mall in Fort Bonifacio, Market Market. And among the tenants here include hip and modern international brands like Promod, Uniqlo, Nautica, Yves Rocher France, American Eagle Outfitters and more.

opens: 9:00 am to 9:00 pm everyday

    according to wikipedia:

The SM Aura Premier mall in Bonifacio Global City, Makati City.
The development includes the SkyPark, a multi-level green roof which apart from its environmental advantages, also provides a much needed green and communal space in Metro Manila’s dense cityscape. It will contain al fresco bars & restaurants, sculpture and botanical gardens, a 1,000-seat performance hall which will be called Samsung Hall and a 250-seat chapel named after Filipino saint San Pedro Calungsod.

Aside from shops and F&B outlets, the mall will also include as its anchor tenants The SM Store and SM Supermarket, SMX Convention Center, Food on Four, 2 regular Cinemas, 2 Director’s Club facilities and an IMAX Theater. Designed by Miami-based architectural firm Arquitectonica, the structure will be a basic “dumbbell” arrangement determined by the narrow site, with the main entry at the north corner, and the office tower located at the southern end. The main vehicular drop-off is provided on the western side, with taxi stations on the first basement, accessed from the lower, eastern road.

The mall had its inaugural blessing on May 16, 2013, a day before the grand opening. Numerous celebrities, government officials including Senator Alan Peter Cayetano, Taguig City Mayor Lani Cayetano, company officials, and VIP guests graced the blessing, including SM Prime's Henry Sy and Hans Sy. Hollywood celebrity Sarah Jessica Parker also graced the blessing.[3] She also cut the ribbon for The SM Store, as well as being the newest endorser for their "Love to Shop" campaign.[4][5]

    Planning[edit]

SM Prime Holdings is at the forefront of sustainable design and energy efficiency; actively taking bold steps towards a cleaner and better environment for the future.

SM Prime’s latest shopping mall offering, SM Aura Premier, is designed to stand out from the neighboring buildings not only through visual aesthetics, but also with well-designed architectural and operational highlights for the enjoyment and convenience of customers, tenants, and employees alike.

    Serendra Piazza

    by nixca316 Updated Oct 24, 2013

There are four(4) big shopping and dining places that are near each other in the BGC. The first one is Market! Market!, the next is Serendra, the third is the Bonifacio High Street., and the fourth one is SM Aura Premier.

Bonifacio High Street is a long park and strips of stores filled with high end stuff and gastronomical delights.

Market! Market! is very crowded almost everyday. Although it caters to everyone, this the favorite among the masses because it is not too "overwhelming" for them, unlike its neighbor, SM Aura Premier.

Just across the street is SERENDRA PIAZZA.

Serendra is a residential area with food establishments and retail stores at the center or the Piazza. It's just across the street of Market! Market on one side and Bonifacio Street on the other side.

Seasonally, there are fun activities for the whole family. Some of the restaurants are venues for art exhibits, like the Duo Steakhouse.

Speaking of art, there is fun at the second floor for kids 4 years old and up who want to be Globally known artists one day. The Global Art Center teaches kids to be more creative and more.

Among other things, there are great dessert places too, like Chez Karine.

    SM Aura Premier

    by nixca316 Written Oct 24, 2013

This was supposed to be a Civic Center for the City of Taguig so when they were building this place, they had to hide that it was from SM. I'm not sure if they fixedi% the problem already...maybe they did.

Anyways, I only vowed not to enter Baguio City's branch, so I checked this out too.

There was a big fuss when it seemed like they suddenly launched this place. The truth of the matter is that it was planned long ago, or else, how could they have invited Sarah Jessica Parker that easily?

The place is filled with high end/upscale shops and restaurants, but they do have places where ordinary folk can eat(like Food on Four) and Shop(SM Department Store). The famous fast foods can be found there too, so those on a budget can enjoy visiting the place too.

Now, regarding the movies, they don't show local films there(maybe they would, during the Metro Manila Film Festival on Christmas).

For more info, check their wikipedia page and the FB Fan pages:
