    Deep Waters

by gacortes Written Mar 28, 2010

Beware of swimming at night or going too far from the shore. Zambales is known for it's strong currents and there are some who lost their lives because they didn't listen. It's better to be safe than sorry.

    Reported Deaths - Seriously

by danaiskra Updated Feb 3, 2009

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

There have been several reported deaths in Anawangin last year. One of these was some mountaineers who coursed the river shown in the photo. Make sure that the weather is fine before you climb. The time the photo was taken was in mid- January, no rains during the previous days, that's why the river is dry and harmless.

There was also a reported death in the waters of the beach itself. It was said that the under current of the beach waters is very strong, so be careful when treading the deeper areas of the beach. Better yet, do not go too far from the shore.

    Carabao *** - literally

by danaiskra Updated Feb 3, 2009

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

There are carabao droppings everywhere on the way down. If you're lucky enough, you might even spot one of these wild creatures on your way. You would of course need to be close to your guide because they know how to ward them away.

    Anawangin Cove: Strong Undertow!

    by f8stop Updated May 21, 2008

    2 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

I did not go swimming when I was in Anawangin but i just heard recently that the undertow there is unpredictable and the current may intensify without warning. the story goes that even strong swimmers can not overpower the current when it's at its strongest so just to be on the safe side, please wade in shallow waters only or wear a lifevest when you go swimming.

    Anawangin Cove: about the loo

    by f8stop Updated Apr 25, 2008

    2 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

There are 2 toilets in the 50-peso camping area and both toilets are flushed manually. It's not exactly a back-breaking job but please be warned that one has to pump and fetch water from a water pump about 20 feet away. (water basins are available for fetching water)

    Anawangin Cove: Tents vs. Winds

    by f8stop Updated Apr 25, 2008

    2 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

It is advisable for tents to be pitched under trees or between other foliage/structures in case of rain and also to protect them from strong gusts of wind from the sea. (it did not rain when we were there but it DID get windy) Or try to anchor them in the sand.

The weight of our baggage was not enough to hold the tents down, we had to get hard-to-find rocks to keep them in place.
