ALI MALL FOOD COURT: WOULD MUHAMMAD ALI EAT HERE????

by davidjo Written Mar 30, 2014

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

While waiting for my cellphone to be repaired at Ali Mall, next to the Araneta Coliseum in Cubao we decided to have a snack and discovered a food court inside the mall with the usual excellent local food on offer at extremely economic prices. As usual we were spoiled for choice but my wife chose grilled bangus (milkfish) and i settled for a steak. Both were excellent!

Interesting to know that Ali Mall was the first major shopping center in the Philippines and was constructed in 1976 and named after the world champion boxer who beat Joe Frazier in the Thrilla in Manila at the coliseum next door. After Muhammad Ali's victory he made a speech addressing the issue of building a shopping center near the coliseum in honor of his victory. The mall was originally 62,000 square meters but has undergone renovation and expansion since it opened.

    yummy!!!! excellent choice mmmmmm!!!!

    TOKYO TEMPURA: TRY THE TEMPURA

by davidjo Written Mar 30, 2014

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Not exactly a street vendor but Tokyo Tempura has stalls in many foodcourts in the major shopping malls in Quezon City and other parts of the metropolis. They sell tempura shrimps which are deep fried in a few minutes. There are 3 different sizes that you can order and a choice of chili sauce or ketchup. Prices are cheap and it makes for a tasty treat while shopping in the mall.

    Roberta Seafood Cantina: Reasonably Priced

    by monina_c Written Jul 21, 2010

Roberta Seafood Cantina is a reasonably priced restaurant that specializes in, surprise, surpise, seafood dishes! :) The small but clean establishment is located inside UP Teacher's Village.
Their dishes are mostly for sharing so your whole dinner won't make that big a dent on your daily allowance.

Favorite Dish: My favorite dishes are tinola sa pakwan, grilled seafood and almost all their appetizers. :)

    Kanin Club: Very filling!

    by monina_c Updated Mar 11, 2010

The food is very reasonably priced and delicious. The restaurant is well-maintained and the crew well-trained. A plus is the fact that it is a few minutes convenient drive across from the UP Diliman Campus. The decor is native inspired and walls are decorated with paintings by local artists (I think they are for sale). BTW, make sure that you are seated on the inner room so you can see the back garden. :)

Favorite Dish: I loved the crispy pata, the seafood kare-kare which is rich and very satisfying and the salads which are perfect accompaniments to the meat dishes. All Kanin Club dishes that we ordered can be shared by 3-4 people (who are not necessarily on diet ;)

The Noodle Shop: Ma Mon Luk

by tanamay Updated Nov 11, 2008

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Ma Mon Luk is still the quaint restaurant of old. They started in Chinatown, Manila way back then and now the only existing branch is the one on Quezon Ave.

The restasturant walls are decorated by framed old newspaper and magazine clippings about the restaurant. Big ceiling fans with no air conditioners. Cash only.

Even with these they are always full during lunch and dinner, for its 'Filipinized' Chinese dishes.

    Value for your money!

Favorite Dish: Ma Mon Luk is famous for its big bowl of "mami" (chicken or beef noodle) soup and big "siopao" (steamed pork dumpling) with their secret, delicious sauce.

Try also their "pancit canton" (fried noodle), "lumpiang shangai" (meat roll), etc.
