by PeterSt You have to try Balut....boiled goose eggs a week or 4 before they hatch. Tip...don't try to pull the feathers out of your mouth...not too many feathers...just a few small ones. Eat and enjoy. The best are on Palawan Island. I did it once....never again!! You are next! Interesting taste for sure...and the locals will love you for trying (and enjoying) their local cuisine. Show them how much you love it. Its ok...not an endangered species. Leave a Comment Theme: OtherAddress: Palawan Island

by SnowAngel Hmmm... let me think, oh yeah I remember now, it was the guy in road vendor number three selling 'monkey on a stick'.
Monkey on a stick... I don't think it was really monkey meat, but you never know. Either way, it was delicious. When in Rome.... You should also try the 'lumpia' which the Philippines are famous for. If you've never had true homemade lumpia, you are missing out!! Leave a Comment Theme: OtherOther Contact: The pic is of vendors that are c

by fwendorf Go for the street food or the homemade food sold out of little store fronts like the one to the left. Get to know the cooks in the store fronts and they will make what you want and have it ready for you the next day. Street BBQ is really good and cheap. Manila has some very good restaurants but the city is a little overwhelming. Stick to the small towns and outer islands.
Filipino cooking is all about braising and slow cooking food. It is usually not spicy and has more of a stew like quality. Soy, vinegar, pork and sea food play a big role. Meat is often more a flavor agent than the main part of the meal which mostly consists of vegetables. Got to try the various adobos as it is probably the national dish. Adobo can be any kind of meat or seafood cooked in soy and vinegar. But don't miss the crispy pork dishes. Filipinos use all of the pig including the skin which they cook until crispy and delicious. Seafood soups come in a wide variety. They have no problem mixing seafood with pork or beef which is something I have rarely seen in other cusines. Lots of marinated BBQ street food on sticks. All is very cheap. Leave a Comment Theme: Other

by EricLe_Rouge Fillipino chicken with garlic. Adobo is the national dish of the Phillipines. Most warm-weather countries have through the centuries developed recipes that preserve food while flavouring it. This dish is different than many because of its strong component of vinegar. It is at once sour, salty, and drenched in garlic.

by cyberhunk Philippines has every lovely restaurants big and small with delectable, mouth-watering dishes. I like trying every kind of restaurants from the sidewalk carenderia or turo-turo, open-air food joints (al fresco) to the expensive restaurants. However, some of these restaurants captured my heart and of course, my stomach. I cannot rank them for i love them all. I like Kamayan restaurant for their native specialties, as well as Cabalen. I also love to eat at WokInn in Malate (their pinsek prito or fried wonton and stuffed squid... oohh i love the sweet and hot taste of it), Pilugaw (katipunan) for their crispy tokwat-baboy(fried mixture of pork and tofu with vinegar, onion and soy sauce) and their big bowl of congee. Another one is Anahaw Grill ( dunno if it still exists), they have a wide variety of seafoods for grill, fried or steam and its very cheap too. Next is ChinaTown in Banawe (youve got to try their buffet....extra super delectables). There's also the seafood market in Baclaran, Paranaque, where one can choose from a wide variety of seafoods, also theres TongYang where you can cook your food according to your taste and style. Then there's Via Mare, Theres endless in my list and if you really want to know more about these restaurants...try to contact me thru email. :) burns888_2000@yahoo.com

The Source, Greenbelt Park, Makati I simply love this restaurant. It's owned by Mara Padro de Tavera who is also the president of the Greenbelt Organic Market so you can be sure everything served in the restaurant is pesticide-free and organically-raised, without compromising tasts. Located near Max's Restaurant, it is a simple bamboo structure covered with tulle curtains. It has a nice, relaxing ambience. They serve a vast array of organic food ingeniously prepared including fried organic bangus (milkfish) and leche flan infused with sampaguita. They serve aged tofu cheese in three flavors, together with either pita bread or wholewheat crackers. The cheese is also sold in cubes at 18 Philippine pesos each.
