CALIFORNIA PIZZA KITCHEN: CLASSIC and MODERN PIZZAS plus YUMMY SALADS

by AusPinay

This place in trendy Greenbelt in Makati, Metro Manila surprised us with their authentic Italian pizza crusts which are not so oily but quite substantial. Another surprise was the salads which were really tasty and with fantastic dressings! I am not much of a salad eater but I was really into my Caesar salad which had very fresh ingredients and nice dressing! It was simple yet you could taste the dressing and the cheese! The drinks cost just over a dollar each and served in tall glasses! The bonus was that my uncle just picked us up for dinner for several nights and took us to Makati to sample the cuisine there so he paid for everything! My favourite was the Caesar salad and the yummy green mango shakes. My son also loved his iced tea and classic California Kitchen Special pizza. The dough makes the pizza really lovely!

Pancit Canton

by elsadran

Another dish I honored a lot was Pancit Canton. It is supposed to originate in Canton, China but since I haven't been there I have no idea if the chinese version is also tasty. What I know is I couldn't resist trying it again and again. If you are a vegetarian you can order it without meat, only veggies. But the authentic recipe is with pork(or beef), chicken and shrimps all together. Meat must be shredded into strips. It's available in most restaurants. The ingredients: for 6 persons to 10 persons3 tablespoons of oil3 gloves of garlic, crashed1 onion, sliced1 very small cabbage,( or half of a medium one), shredded2 table spoons of soy sauce3 stalks of sliced celery1 carrot, sliced into strips1 package of pancit canton ( noodles, not too thin), very little blanched2 cups meat broth (keep the broth when you boil the meat)¼ kilo pork, boiled and cut into strips¼ chicken, boiled and sliced...

Lechon Baboy - a national dish

by elsadran

Lechon can be found in most restaurants but the best is made at home by Filipinos. It is said to originate from Spanish cuisine. It is a suckling pig, that is a young pig that has been fed only by its mother's milk. ( leche means milk in Spanish). It is cleaned thoroughly and stuffed with aromatic herbs. The seasoning differs from family to family.. Then they put it on a spit and rotate it for several hours over charcoal. The coal has to be put on the sides at first and when it's almost ready just under it. In this way the meat becomes juicy, sumptuous and tender whereas the skin gets crispy and mouth-watering!!! Experience is needed when it is tied to the spit so that it doesn't split during the rotation. I know this because this procedure is a typical one at Easter in my country. Only we use lamb instead of pork. The family members take turns in rotating. Nowadays there are rotated...

Fish Sinigang - my favourite

by elsadran

While in Philippines I was literally living on fish sinigang. Sinigang is tradiotionally cooked with pork , beef, chicken or shrimps but as fish is my favourite I steadily ordered fish sinigang. This is a sour soup with tamarind(which gives the sour taste),onion, garlic, cubed or whole tomato, salt and pepper and kangkong (water spinach). They say chinese kangkong is better. A lot of other ingredients can be used like okra, string beans, yam, spinach, radish. Even guava..It's a light soup that can be consumed any time of the day. I even had it for ...breakfast sometimes.Traditionally a fish head is used which gives a delicious savour. Here is an easy recipe I have found on internet, 1 whole head of fish, about a 1 kiloa big bunch kangkong (water spinach)2 onions, peeled and sliced1/2 head of garlic, peeled and crushed2-3 tomatoes, diced1/4 kilo young tamarinds (that give the sour taste)...

Crustasia: The Freshest Crab and Seafood in town!

by syokolyte

Crustasia Crab & Seafood House, the latest restaurant from the people behind the reputable Red Crab Chain, offers incredibly sumptuous seafood cuisines which are a mixture of different Asian influences. It is a haven for the freshest seafood and the best of Thai, Vietnamese, Chinese and Filipino Cooking. The menu is very impressive with its crab dishes, such as Crab Maritess, to Szechuan Crab, then my all time favorite Lobster in Garlic Oil. Aside from that they also have this popular Thai dishes like Thai Bagoong Rice which is one of the reason why people keep coming back and also their Pad Thai. They also have Vietnamese paella which is really delicious and it's one of their best selling ever. It is a sweet spicy rice dish of shrimp, crabmeat, and coconut milk and it is served in a bamboo shell, a really nice touch. The restaurant has a great interior with Asian feel, high ceilings...

Mann Hann: Chinese Food

by Orange_traveller

If you are looking for affordable place to eat, this is a good bet. This is one of my favorite restaurants to go to when I'm in the mall. This is what I call, Chinese food with the Filipino twist since their dishes are adapted to the filipino taste buds. When we have balikbayans, they always request that we bring them here to eat. We always order the spicy (not really) squid, mapo tofu, sweet and sour pork, fried chicken, yang chow friend rice. The spicy squid has a dipping sauce that is almost like the bagoong which is soooo good. The mapo tofu complements all the fried food dishes. The sweet and sour pork is really really good. A bit crunchy and it's not fatty. The yang chow fried rice is the best as well! Try also their clams, the noodle dishes are good as well... Everything here is good!

Kamay Kainan: Don't Miss the Fresh Talaba

by allelli

I highly recommend this buffet restaurant, the staff is courteous and polite, the ambience is real Pilipino, and the food is delicious, the buffet cost php219 (less than US$5/pax) they have over 59 dishes to choose from, name Pilipino food they have it, the Lechon de Leche (sucking pig) and Fresh Talaba (oyster) served nightly. Come and try there native foods-----delicious and really worth your money. They have many branches, greenhills, west avenue to name a few.
