Everything at Steak: Don't Forget the Beef Short Ribs

by allelli

Everyday we fast by to this restaurant because my 3rd kids school is on the way to this Petron station where one stands a small place with the sign, "Everything at Steak." , We ignored this restaurant thinking this restaurant is like a typical restaurant that you can find in a gas station, but one day when we pick up my daughter from school she said she want to eat steak so my husband ask me to try this restaurant, the place that can fit less than ten tables with plastic chairs, a glass enclosure of cooks, the place was too crowded, upon my initial observation, and people who were eating were wearing neckties and office clothes its weird. We order Beef Short Ribs PHP150 (US$3.25), Creamy Pesto Pasta PHP120 (US$2.60), and Shrimp Pasta PHP120 (US$2.60). We eat the pasta and I loved the way the cream and pesto complement the firm pasta that was filling up my mouth. The shrimps were firm,...

Contis Pastry Shop & Restaurant: Don't Miss The Mango Bravo

by allelli

This is not an Italian restaurant It a serve good pasta Conti, the restaurant features an eclectic mix of Filipino, European and a few Japanese dishes, along with sumptuous pastries and desserts, the house specialty. The simple decor is highlighted by a glass-enclosed garden. If you haven't eaten at this place, you're missing a lot. The food is great, service is number #1 and the owners are very friendly. try this restaurant. Their pastry shop is to die for, especially their Mango bravo (meringue, fresh mango slices whipped cream and chocolate filling) Their mango bravo cakes cost Php695 (US$15) for a whole cake that about 7 inches in height and 10 inches in diameter, they can feed a lot of people.. Worth every penny. Just make sure you either make a reservation or come early as lines can get quite long for a table. It is the only bakeshop I know that has a full line of meringue cake...

Red Ribbon: More than Cakes and Pastries

by nixca316

When Red Ribbon entered the Filipino Market in the 1970s, she had to offer something that the other famous bakeshop wasn't offering. She offered first class affordable cakes and so much more (which was good because the competition improved their products too). The dining area is a fast food "type", but since they cook your meals after you order them, then sometimes it takes long for them to serve. Filos: One of the best Filipino resto

by Orange_traveller

One of the best restaurant to go to in Manila is at Filos which is located at The Fort strip. Just take the taxi and tell the driver to bring you to The Fort Bonifacio Global City in Taguig. Here you will find good Filipino dishes at a reasonable price. This is one of many Filipino fine dining restaurants but be comfortable to wear your casual clothes. If you go there for dinner, you might want to to to Pier One after which is just across Filos for some nice music and a few drinks. If you go to Filos for lunch, go to Market Market mall afterwards and shop until you drop. All the food here from appetizer to dessert tastes really good and authentically Filipino. The ingredients used are fresh and of top quality. Try the smoked milkfish, Adobo (pork and chicken), sinigang (sour soup). Don't skip dessert as they serve heavenly sweet goodies.

Dulcinea: Beyond Churros con Chocolate

by KookieDough

Dulcinea has been a part of the Philippine restaurant scene since the 1960s. It started with one shop in the heart of Manila and now it has branches in the major commercial areas in Makati, Alabang and Quezon City and in the SM malls, among others.Apart from the Churros con Chocolate, another reason why I love dining at Dulcinea is the ambience. It makes you feel relaxed. I think it is because it is really a Spanish restaurant that they designed their restaurants in a way that encourages long meals and snacks - very, very opposite of the fast food feel. I think the owners really wanted to incorporate that Spanish culture of enjoying food while talking or reading the papers, which is a habit also inherited by the Filipinos.Dulcinea is a great stop for breakfast and lunch meetings or even just to take a break by yourself. Churros con Chocolate - melts in your mouth! Probably their most...

Most Filipinos restaurants/foodstalls: Sisik - chopped up roasted porky

by myspices

This is found in most food stalls and restaurants. It is usually in a pot and you can just point at it and you will be served a portion on a plate. Goes with rice. Had my share of Sisik when I was in Angeles City. It's roasted pork chopped into pieces and mixed with slices of onions and fresh chillies with dash of lime.Delicious in taste.Price : 30pesosNote: The pork consists a lot fat portion. Someone told me that sisik is usually the chopped pieces of the roasted pig's head (?)

In most Filipinos restaurants: Longganiza and Tocino

by myspices

These are specialities of Province of Pampanga. I tried these two special dishes in Angeles City - a sari-sari stall. See details in Angeles City travel page Tocino - "honey-cured pork" is pork marinated in a sweet sauce (slightly pinkish) and deep fried. Taste is real delicious - sweet in taste. Something like the Chinese "char siew".Longganiza - "sausages" , marinated minced meat as the filling. The ones we had were short and small (almost like little balls). Deep fried till brown. Taste is crunchy on the outside and the inside is soft and meaty. Something like the Chinese "lup cheong".Served with a portion of rice and a fried egg.Cost : 50pesos

The Chicaron: Krock..krock ... crunchy bite -Chicaron

by myspices

This snack food can be found anywhere in Philippines. You want to know what these are?? Yes, it's pork skin (mixed with some flour), deep fried till crispy.. You can be addicted to it..... chewing it with the krock..krock sound.. It tastes like any snack crunchy crackers.. maybe tastier :)Per packet of chicaron : 10pesos! (sometimes comes with sauce).

Street Vendors: Empanada - Filipino pancakes

by myspices

The empanada is made by rolling out a small piece of dough on the banana leaf and fillings of shrimps, vegetables and egg are placed on top of the flat pastry and then fold-over. The uneven edges are then trimmed off using the edge of the bowl. The ready "puffs" are then deep fried in a hot wok. Great as snacks and for tea breaks.I tried my empanadas in Vigan, food stalls next to Plaza Burgos. See Vigan travel page for details Empanadas are best eaten when they are hot. The crust is crunchy and the fillings are delicious to the bite. Eat it with the sauce served - vinegar with some chopped onions. Cost of each empenada : 25pesos.(Some empenadas could be cheaper or more expensive, depending on the fillings)
