Restaurants/Festivals: Lechon or Roasted Pig

by yen_2

Just like the spaghetti, Lechon is the most wanted Filipino food! Yah..it's true and right now while writing this I'm salivating..heheh;-) Now, when it's cook very well the skin is very crispy and that's really delisciousssooo..;-) It's present to all parties and festivals and for the visitors, you should try it! Lechon. Most whole Lechon costs 250pesos/kilo.

Anywhere: Pasta

by yen_2

Well, as you can see from my photo. It's spaghetti! Most of us really love spaghetti...err..it's true! Even me, I love it. In anywhere of the country, locals do love this one. Birthdays, Christmas, New Years, Anniversaries and in any kind of parties,Spaghetti is in there..Even McDonalds, spaghetti for 39pesos(?) is available. I don't know, but whatever it is..some and most of us really love it specially young kids! Most of the provinces when they have festivals, Spag is in there too and others like it to eat with the rice!yah..it's true..;-) Pasta.

*: More rice - Chocolate Rice - Champorado

by Audrey118

Liked I said - the Philippines loooove their rice...and now i shall address the issue of rice - chocolate rice...almost like a rice pudding but with chocolate flavour. And the sweetness of this sticky rice porridge is contrasted well with crispy deep fried salt fish. You could flake it over and eat it, and you could eat one mouthful of the porridge with a skiny bite of the salt fish. I shall call this the Philippine National Breakfast = how is that...i did quite enjoyed it!!!

***: Longganisa ~ Pork Sausages

by Audrey118

Well - we were introduced to these sausages during breakfast - but it was so sumptous we ordered it for dinner once!!!! They are tiny but fat sausages....it is their local version sausages...with excellent flavouring. Depending on area, the taste will vary. I was told some places would have them studded with garlic...that sounds yum. And here is a picture of my fav VTer from the Philippines - proudly posing with his breakast at Banaue - the Longganisa!!!

Delivered to your door: Taho Taho!

by ersatz

This is really good and healthy food. The Taho man comes round with his pails of soy-bean curds over his shoulders and serves a cupful for 5 Pesos [10 cents]. Note how he spoons it out in thin slivers to avoid breaking up the curds. He will add sago balls and brownsugar syrup if you like.

Local speciality!: Give it a miss!

by ersatz

There is lots of good local food to be eaten in the Philippines: the sea food is great, the fish is abundant and cheap, and if you can learn to eat at the Carinderia, you can eat for half a dollar per dish. I just worry about the typically Asian attitude to the bits we would throw away in the West. There are lots of otherwise tasy dishes that have gizzards, intestines and odd organs in them, that I personally would rather not know about!Health Warning !!!! Watch out for Dinuguan, a dish made from meat boiled in pig's blood.

Chow King: Ah! Food!

by ersatz

The most popular Asian fast food restaurant in the Philippines must be Chow King. Of course there are Jollibee and Kentucky KFC if you want western type fast food, but if you want to eat economical local dishes, you can't beat Chow King. This very odd dish , modelled here by my wife JJ, is a typically paradoxical asian concoction. Apart from the shaved ice, fruit juice , fruit chunks and icecream, it also contains beans. Small brown beans. Don't ask me why.

Rufo's: Filipino Fare! 24-hr Beef Tapa!

by shankatz

Best Beef Tapsilog! 24-hr open air venue. Tapsilog is an abbreviation for tapa - sinangag - itlog. Tapa means beef strips, cooked in oil almost to crispiness, while Sinangag is fried rice topped with garlic. The last component, Itlog, is your standard sunny-side-up fried egg. Served together, these three make up the combination of Tapsilog. YUM!!! Eat this with a San Miguel beer! Only try the Tapsilog here!

Burger Machine: Fast food.

by shankatz

You will see these cars on any side of the road. As dirty as it seems to stop by the side of the road and have a burger from a car/grill, these are quite amazing burgers. Why? It is just a different flavor, maybe it is the banana ketchup, who knows...but is it DAMN tasty and of course, cheap! Cheeseburger & Bart Burger.

Aristocrat: Great Filipino Barbecue! - A Must

by msison

The restaurant is a local favourite where you will see everyone that has been there for years keep on going back.My favourite dish is their chicken and rice. So much flavour and taste..it is defenitely a must stop over during your stay.
