Explore Heritage Houses

Find time to explore heritage houses if you are fascinated by history and architectural details of old houses. We saw only the Victor Fernandez Gaston Ancestral House, also known as Balay Negrense, but there are others like the Bernardino-Ysabel Jalandoni Ancestral House that you can view. You can walk around and see more old houses, but don't expect to see Vigan-like heritage houses lined up in a cobble stone street. Have A Massage @ The Airport

Relax At The City Plaza

I wanted to cross the street from the Cathedral to explore the City Plaza, but it started to shower. I had wanted to have a quick rest under the trees, then take some photos, but the shower threatened to pour heavily. If you go to Silay on a fine weather, it would be nice to explore the City Plaza.

Visit Silay Church a.k.a. San Diego Pro-Cathedral

The San Diego Pro-cathedral is an early 20th century church, formerly known as the San Diego Parish Church or the St. Didacus Parish Church before its declaration as a pro-cathedral in 1994. It is distinguished from the other churches in Negros Occidental as the only church in the province with a cupola or dome. It is also the only pro-cathedral outside of Manila.Italian architect Lucio Bernasconi designed the Cathedral of San Diego de Alcala in 1920, making it famous for its dome which many noticed as similar to St. Peter's Basilica in Rome. With its awesome architectural details, the church of San Diego stands out as one of the most noticeable landmarks in Silay.

Fly Manila-Silay To Go To Bacolod

The old Bacolod City Domestic Airport is no longer operational. In 2007, the New Bacolod-Silay Airport started operations as the main airport for Bacolod City, Negros Occidental's capital city. The airport stands on a 181-hectare site in Barangay Bagtic, 15 kilometers northeast of Bacolod. It will take about 25 minutes travel by cab from the airport to Bacolod. The main passenger terminal is equipped with a flight information display system, numerous security X-ray machines, mechanized baggage handling systems (both inbound and outbound baggage), elevators and escalators. When we arrived, it didn't take us long to claim our baggages. We spent more time in the airport lobby taking pictures of the giant mask, getting maps and brochures, and asking a lot of questions from the lady assigned at the Tourist Information Booth.You get your plane back to Manila at the New Bacolod-Silay Airport.

Another one of Silay's ancestral houses converted into a museum. Visits are by appointments only. Entrance fees are P40 for adults and P20 for students and senior citizens. One of the many ancestral houses of beautiful Silay, converted into a museum. Showcases the beautiful architecture of the Spanish Era with all the original furniture from beds, to harps, chandeliers, telephones, irons and tons of old pictures. They also have a expansive doll collection.

Touring the city

One can easily take a walking tour around Silay City proper, or ride one of the many tricycles that ply the streets. A "tricycle" is actually a motorcycle with a covered sidecar that can carry from 2 to 4 passengers; this is a common form of local transport in the Philippines and has other names,like pedicab, depending on the region. Balay Negrense is an old ancestral house that was converted into a museum. Antiques and photographs from the Spanish period dominate this quiet house. I swear its creepy once you're in there.They just ask for a minimum entrance fee of P10
