Donsol, Sorsogon

by machomikemd

Whalesharks are the largest Mammal earth and despite their name, they are gentle and non violent plus they are not carnivores but just eat planktons (sea algaes). Before 1997, the world’s most popular whale shark tour was in Ningaloo Reef, West Australia, where hopefuls enlisted the aid of a light spotter plane. Aside from being rather pricey ($350 to $500 or P16,650 to P23,790 per person), whale shark interactions were not guaranteed but little did the world know that for years, fishermen from an unknown town in Sorsogon were shooing away dozens of friendly, lumbering sharks bumping into their nets. World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), a global conservation group, has played a crucial role in establishing community-based ecotourism here in Donsol Town. Donsol, situated 540 km southeast of Manila, has quite possibly, the world’s highest aggregation of whale sharks. Though found in other...

Vigan

by hunwagner

Down on the west coast of North Luzon, the city of Vigan, capital of Ilocos Sur Province, is the best preserved Spanish colonial town in the Philippines by a very, very long shot.In fact, I would say it is the only city worth visiting for its own sake. Its intact architecture has been declared a World Heritage Site, and has so far successfully escaped overdevelopment and over-restauration.It feels like a real time-wrap, but is far from being a museum town - in fact it has some of the liveliest, most colorful fiestas in the country. One of my personal favourites!

Mount Mayon Volcano, Legaspi Albay

by mlt_t

One of the most attractive sights in the Philippines has to offer. Its graceful contours rise in what is reputed to be the world’s most perfect cone. The crowing glory of Philippines natural wonders is the world-famous Mount Mayon in Bicolandia . Its majestic beauty thrills. All people behold it. By its God- given beauty it surpasses all mountains of the world. A distinguished British Traveler, Henry Savage Lander, who saw it in 1903, said: it is the most beautiful mountain I have ever seen, the world- renowned Fujiyama of Japan sinking into perfect insignificance by comparison. For graceful lines I don not know of any mountain which could equal Mayon Volcanoes and rising as it does to the sea, it looks most imposing.

by TRAVELCHICK29

these are caves hidden within a jungle in the island of Samar. inside these majestic caves you can see some stalactites and stalagmites that imitate famous sculptures, landscapes and even errogenous body parts.not a popular tourist spot but it is a well-known secret to locals and "spelunkers"(cave enthusiasts) and wannabes. the caves are not difficult to explore, even my 12 year old nephews and my 65 year old aunt had a great time doing it.

If You Only Had a Few Days...

by XF2009

A friend from Hong Kong told me that she and her husband, plus three kids plan to go to Cebu for the Chinese New Year, and this is what I shared...."Let me caveat one thing before I start my comments on Cebu. The Philippines is an anomaly within Southeast Asia--it is the only predominant Christian country that was once the top of its game (50's and 60's) until the Marcos regime ravaged the economy (70's, 80's), and the only true US colony in the world. You will see a lot of contrasts--absolute wealth amongst poverty, truly chic malls and plazas near shanty towns and street beggars, suggestive Western-style billboards along Catholic churches and crosses. All in all, these are the things that make the Philippines unique and exciting, but chaotic and frustrating sometimes. So, Cebu... Cebu was one city/island that was least harmed by the negative press from the politics of the past. It has...

The rice terraces in Banaue.

by cachaseiro

The rice terraces in Banaue are over 2000 yers old and considerd UNESCO world heritage. They are still being used by the local ifugao people who also have a culture that differs a lot from the rest of the country.Banaue is in roughly 1500 meters altitude so it´s a fairly cool place, but you might just enjoy that if you are coming straight from the heat of Manila. It´s possible to use the little paths at the rice terraces for trekking and it´s really a place worth visiting.
