The army jeeps left by the United States after the Second World War inspired the making of these vehicles. Artworks of painstaking detail are often seen on the shining chrome bodies of these vehicles, which, as earlier said, are copies of army jeeps, resized and remodeled to accommodate commuting passengers numbering from 16 to 30 all in all.

The first jeepneys were actually the army jeeps themselves, which were repainted or scraped to the metal, upon which various decorations were attached. Moving horse figurines, flags, colorful lights, paintings, traditional designs, bonnets, mirrors and stickers were put on these vehicles, making each vehicle startlingly different in terms of appearance from the next one. Ford Fieras were also soon used for jeepney production. Later on, however, the companies that did these remodeling jobs started making much bigger bodies running on surplus diesel engines (which are cheaper in the long run for the jeepney driver), thereby increasing the overall capacity of jeepneys. Soon, the army jeeps and Ford Fieras were all but totally displaced by the Philippine-made jeepneys with bodies entirely crafted locally, but with the high-tech parts obtained from surplus shops throughout the country. The Philippine jeepney industry was thus born, and later on, it spread to the different provinces from Metropolitan Manila where it all started, making the jeepney the most ubiquitous vehicle indeed in the Philippines.

The unique thing about jeepneys is that no jeepney is exactly the same as another. Each jeepney is a testament to the artistic ability of the designer assigned to it.
It is a matter of pride for a jeepney designer to come up with a jeepney pleasing to the eye, and with an interior design that is both beautiful and not an impediment to function. Several improvisations are also put in inside the jeepney, such as blinker lights that come on when passengers who have to alight press a button or pull a string.

Diosdado Macapagal International Airport is the ex US military base of CLARK. By April 1991, magma flowing beneath Pinatubo volcano caused thousands of small earthquakes and by June, the volcano was spitting out deadly sulfur dioxide gas. The US Air Force started evacuating Clark base. On 12 June 1991, Philippine Independence Day, Pinatubo erupted. It was the 2nd-largest volcanic eruption of the 20th century. The ash fall devastated Clark and Angeles City. In November, the US Air Force transferred Clark to the Philippines.

Diosdado Macapagal International Airport is approximately 80 km north of Manila (about 2.30' bus ride), near Angeles city. The connection between Clark and Manila is arranged with shuttle buses that are scheduled to coincide with AirAsia's flight arrivals and departures. These 40-seater air conditioned buses are provided by Philtranco Service Enterprises.

    Shuttle Bus Timetable:
Please check the website link below.

The buses for arriving Guests will be parked outside the Arrival Hall of Clark International Airport main exit. There will be a signage. The number of buses provided will depend on the in-bound load to ensure safety and comfort.

In Manila, the pick-up and drop-off point is at the Philtranco Terminal, Ground Floor, SM Megamall Building A, ADB Avenue, Ortigas Centre, Mandaluyong City. There will be a counter and signage.

There are many buses to choose from in the Philippines. Generally there isn't a Central Bus station though which can lead to some confusion on getting the bus that you want. Quite often the bus that passes you doesn't go to the destination that you want. There will be a sign card on the front telling the final destination and if your not sure if your destination is going to be passed by the bus just ask the bus driver before getting on.The buses are all privatized and for the most part each have there own stops in each town. But if you need help just ask any local and they should be able to help you out. On the plus side you can flag down just about any bus from the roadside and hop on it. The only buses that don't stop for you are the full buses or a bus that has been chartered. Unless you are way off the beaten path you will see buses pass all the time. This bus in the picture was the one that we took from Sagada to Baguio and for that route there aren't a lot of buses so we were lucky to catch the one that we did. As there are only 1 or two buses per day that do that route. We were flagged down all along the way by people that would ride for matbe 15-20 minutes and then get off at another village. Buses are very cheap to ride on. They can be a bit scarey as the drivers don't have a fear of crashing!! They pass on curves and drive much to fast!! All drivers will be wearing some sort of religous icon to Protect them from danger.

    Bancas

With more than 7000 Islands the Philippines has miles and miles of coastline so getting out on one of these Bancas is very easy to do. There are bigger versions of these that are used for ferrying people between many of the Islands. If you are going long distances you might want to check the local weather report before departing and if you feel the boat has to many people on it you may want to hop off. Many of these bigger Bancas sink every year in the Philippines. Many don't carry enough personal floatation devices either.

With more than 7,000 islands, flying into the smaller ones requires taking smaller planes. Many times, the smaller planes offer the most direct flights to locations like Boracay or Baguio, or even Batanes. And when I say small, I mean - smaller than a bus.

This is a 17-seater Asian Spirit plane (LET 410 Czech plane) that I took to Caticlan to get to Boracay. Two engines, one pilot, and no flight attendant. But fun!

Philippine Airlines (or "PAL") is only one of the many airlines that fly to and from the Philippines. If you like great, friendly, and efficient service, try PAL when you fly to Manila. Not only will you have the benefit of a much nicer airport terminal when you get here, the inflight service on PAL is truly efficient and friendly. PLUS, you get great connections when you're here.

Flag Carrier! PAL, what philippine airlines is called is older than cathay pacific making it Asia's Oldest Airline (and trivia-only PAL and Other Philippine Carriers are not subsidized by the Governent, bucking the trend in the rest of asia wherein other National carriers are heavily subsidiez by their Governments like Singapore Airlines, Thai Air, Malaysian Air, Royal Brunei, Emirates, Japan Airlines and others).

Philippine Airlines was founded on February 26, 1941, making it Asia's oldest carrier still operating under its current name. The airline was started by a group of businessmen led by Andres Soriano, hailed as one of the Philippines' leading industrialists at the time, who served as the General Manager, and former Senator Ramon Fernandez as Chairman and President. Government investment in September of the same year paved the way for its nationalization. Its main hub is at Ninoy Aquino International Airport in the city of Parañaque with all its passenger flights involving Manila in Centennial Terminal 2.

It was originally a US Air Force Base in the 1900's. It started operations as a civil aviation airport in 1948, then consisting of the present domestic runway as its sole landing strip, and a small building
northwest of this runway as its sole passenger terminal. The Ninoy Aquino International Airport is the primary airport serving the Metro Manila Area and the main international gateway of the Philippines. Located along the border between Pasay City and Parañaque City, it is about 7 kilometers south of the country's capital Manila, and southwest of Makati City's Central Business District.

The airport has two duty-free shops which are located on the North Wing of the Departure's Level and on the North Wing of the Arrivals Level, The airport has two banks, outside Arrivals Terminal 1 and in the Arrivals Terminal 2. Both the banks provide a bureau de change service which is available during flight operations. There is unfortunately no left-luggage department in the airport, but trolleys however are available for free and there is also a free of charge porter service available upon request. There are Tourist Information desks located in both the Arrivals and Departures hall. Airport information desks are available for all flights.

Located next to the Philippine Village Hotel on Airport Ave., the control tower complex. This terminal is exclusively for Philippine Airline flights. Opened in October 1999, this modern airport is quite large. There is a lounge for business and first class passengers on the lower level. Security procedures are followed closely in this terminal as well.

Terminal 2 is the home of Philippine Airlines and its sister company Air Philippines, and is used for both its domestic and international flights. It has the most flights out of all the NAIA terminals. is divided into 2 wings: the North Wing which handles international flights and the South Wing which handles domestic flights. It currently has 12 airbridges.

It has been named the Centennial Terminal in commemoration of the centennial year of the declaration of Philippine independence. The 75,000-square meter terminal was originally designed by Aéroports de Paris to be a domestic terminal, but the design was later modified to accommodate international flights. It has a capacity of 2.5 million passengers per year in its international wing and 5 million in its domestic wing
