Cabs at the Mactan International Airport (Cebu)

by XF2009

Once you arrive in Cebu (Mactan International Airport) and pick up your luggage, there is a well-staffed tourist desk across the baggage turnstiles. Just ask or confirm the location of your hotel, and get an "estimate" of how much time and money it will cost. As soon as you exit the airport, you'll see on the right a "travel" desk for transportation to the city for a flat rate of P295. Not a bad deal if you're not on a budget. If you cross the driveway and climb up a short flight of steps to the right, there is a well organized taxi cab stand that will take you to your location. The estimate given to me by the tourist desk was ~P180 to the Mango Park Hotel; it actually cost me P140, so I gave the cabbie a P20 tip (for the pleasant surprise! ;-)

Jam Bus to Batangas Pier. Montenegro to Calapan

by AsiaBill

Philtranco on EDSA in Pasay City is one but you need to take a bus from Cubao to Pasay if you live near Cubao. You can save a few hundred pesos by just paying for each of the 4 "legs" on the trip like taking JAM Transit Bus on Taft Ave near corner of Buendia to Batangas Pier for P150, then the Fast Ferry for P210 or slow ferry P160 to Calapan then a van for P190 / P200 to Roxas Mindoro and then the Ferry to Caticlan for P350 for a total of about P900 compared to P1250 to P1350 if paid to one bus company all the way from Manila to Caticlan. I have driven our Delica Van a dozen times using this RoRo route so am familiar with all three bus companies you mentioned but can't tell you if one is better than the other. The trick or bottleneck occurs in Roxas, Mindoro as it depends on the weather and there's only about 6 ferries every 24 hours and the hours change without much notice. So my...

Going around

by Peter_VIE

These are the most popular form of transport for short journeys all over the Philippines. Originally they were constructed Jeep which were left by the US Army after Worldwar II.In the provinces it is important to negotiate a price in advance. There is no timetable, they are leaving when full of passengers. If the cabine is overflowing you also can sit on the roof. There is a must to take a picture of it;-)

Trikes

by TravelTed74

I found the best way to get around is trikes. There is always one there when you need it, wherever you are. However when in Angeles city, expect to pay 100php each way. In Manila you can pay around 15php each way. You can use the Jeepneys which cost about 8php each way but can be very slow. We bought a fridge/freezer for my wife's family and the man on the trike tied it to the top of the sidecar, and off we went.

Buses in the Philippines

by yuet29

If you dont have a choice, you dont have a choice. But if you have a choice, there is always 3 types of buses here: ordinary, first class and deluxe. Same as Malaysia, singapore or thailand, when they have aircon they tend to turn it to the lowest temperature and you will be whole night freezing. So I always want something cheaper than ordinary and keep asking for non-aircon bus, but not all route has non-aircon bus. That means when you have a choice, you can only choose between aircon bus (different in number of seats) and when you have no choice, you will mostly end up in a non-aircon bus.

Bus Terminals in the Philippines

by yuet29

Bus terminals in the Philippines are different from other SEA countries, for different bus company, they have different bus terminals even they are running the same route. So the difficulty of traveling with public bus here is you need to ask around for which bus running which route and where is the bus terminal.

SAFE Trip to Pagudpud

by adjire

Where you from? I heard that renting Tricycle there is a bit expnsive. We used to get a client to Pagudpud and other place in Ilocos area and our driver adviced that it is much safer to get Jeep or Van if you are just near Ilocos.

Flight delays

by glenn_ito

Flight delays is chronic for budget airlines like Cebu Pacific, the fare may at times cheap but they suck in terms of customer service. They usually overbook, having a boarding pass does not even guarantee you a seat. I recommend you check out other airline such as the flagship airline Philippine Airlines, small interisland airlines: Seair, Asian Spirit.... they also offer promotional fares, and it is best to book early.

Philippine Airlines

by machomikemd

Flag Carrier! PAL, what philippine airlines is called is older than cathay pacific making it Asia's Oldest Airline (and trivia-only PAL and Other Philippine Carriers are not subsidized by the Governent, bucking the trend in the rest of asia wherein other National carriers are heavily subsidiez by their Governments like Singapore Airlines, Thai Air, Malaysian Air, Royal Brunei, Emirates, Japan Airlines and others).Philippine Airlines was founded on February 26, 1941, making it Asia's oldest carrier still operating under its current name. The airline was started by a group of businessmen led by Andres Soriano, hailed as one of the Philippines' leading industrialists at the time, who served as the General Manager, and former Senator Ramon Fernandez as Chairman and President. Government investment in September of the same year paved the way for its nationalization. Its main hub is at Ninoy...
