Jeepney

by machomikemd

Jeepneys are a popular means of public transportation in the Philippines. They were originally made from US military jeeps left over from World War II and are well known for their flamboyant decoration and crowded seating. They have also become a symbol of Philippine culture. Although the original jeepneys were simply refurbished military jeeps (Willys), modern jeepneys are now produced by independently owned workshops and factories within the Philippines. In the central Philippine island of Cebu, the bulk of jeepneys are built from second-hand Japanese trucks, originally intended for hauling cargo rather than passengers. These are euphemistically known as "surplus" trucks.Jeepneys began plying the streets of Manila after World War II, when U.S. soldiers left thousands of unserviceable jeeps. An entrepreneurial Caviteño named Leonardo Sarao saw in them a business opportunity for mass...

NAIA Terminal 3

by machomikemd

Newly opened in July for International Flights (Cebu Pacific Airlines only) and domestic flights for other airlines. After A Few Years of Legal Wrangling, It Finally Opened! Naia Terninal 3 was a source of controversy since it was started and at present the Philippine Government and the Builders are still engeged on a court battle for it. The Not so spanking New Terminal Terminal 3 began commercial operations for domestic flights in July 2008, after a near six-year delay (initally serving domestic carriers Air Philippines, Pal Express and the Domestic and International Flights of Cebu Pacific Airline). The terminal is expected to be running full international flights by March 2009. Terminal 3 is built on a 63.5-hectare lot that sits on Villamor Air Base. The terminal building has a total floor area of 182,500 square meters, having a total length of 1.2 kilometres. Departure fee for...

NAIA Terminal 2

by machomikemd

Located next to the Philippine Village Hotel on Airport Ave., the control tower complex. This terminal is exclusively for Philippine Airline flights. Opened in October 1999, this modern airport is quite large. There is a lounge for business and first class passengers on the lower level. Security procedures are followed closely in this terminal as well. Terminal 2 is the home of Philippine Airlines and its sister company Air Philippines, and is used for both its domestic and international flights. It has the most flights out of all the NAIA terminals. is divided into 2 wings: the North Wing which handles international flights and the South Wing which handles domestic flights. It currently has 12 airbridges. It has been named the Centennial Terminal in commemoration of the centennial year of the declaration of Philippine independence. The 75,000-square meter terminal was originally designed...

NAIA Terminal 1

It was originally a US Air Force Base in the 1900's. It started operations as a civil aviation airport in 1948, then consisting of the present domestic runway as its sole landing strip, and a small buildingnorthwest of this runway as its sole passenger terminal. The Ninoy Aquino International Airport is the primary airport serving the Metro Manila Area and the main international gateway of the Philippines. Located along the border between Pasay City and Parañaque City, it is about 7 kilometers south of the country's capital Manila, and southwest of Makati City's Central Business District. The airport has two duty-free shops which are located on the North Wing of the Departure's Level and on the North Wing of the Arrivals Level, The airport has two banks, outside Arrivals Terminal 1 and in the Arrivals Terminal 2. Both the banks provide a bureau de change service which is available during...

Cebu Pacific fares to Donsol

by Kaikoura

I found Cebu Pacific fares better than Philippine Airlines. I went to Philippine Airlines but I was not very happy about having to wait for hours to get a chance to speak to a reservationist and then be told there are no more seats.I came across a booking agent who showed a "Can Do" attitude...at first I was a little bit apprehensive...but I was ok after a while. She was working in a booth across the road from Cebu Pacific office. I watched her tried her best to find seats for me and my 2 companions. I had to leave her with it so we can do a bit of shopping. She came and delivered it to our hotel late at night. If she hasn't done this we would have missed out on the main highlight of our trip...although I cannot make up my mind between Donsol and Sagada just yet.If you ever needed a good booking agent in Manila, contact this lady: Her name is Pinky (sorry I didn't get her surname)Mob:...

Transportation in Luzon

by bulldogtwo

The infastructure of the Phillippines leaves a lot to be desired. So, it is a bit difficult to answer your question directly. There are no trains into Luzon from Manila. There are busses but no tour busses that are going to take you to see rice paddies and other sight seeing tours of Luzon. Finding a bike/motorcylcle to rent, maybe in Manila but I would definitly be checking on insurance and quality of the bike, if you could find one. In Luzon, I have not seen or heard of a bike for rent, unlike many other asian countries where mopeds and motorcycles are easy and cheap to rent. That's not to say that they are not there but it is not advertised and it is probably coming in the form of a private owner, and they will probably charge very high prices. For example, I was offered a car to rent for a couple days, by a relative no less at about 70$US a day. What a deal! My best advise would be...

Cebu Pacific Air credit card problem

by tanamay

Your credit card was rejected by Cebu Pacific website because it maybe foreign issue. The same thing happened to me and I have to call Cebu Pacific twice before I got the real reason why my card was rejected.I think this is new CEB policy to accept only card issued by Philippines banks and it is not good for their business (calling Lance Gokongwei).I solved the problem when the one who answered my second call told me to send them copy of card and billing statement which I sent via email.

Boats, planes and automobiles

by GenuinelyCurious

Filipinos are great travelers. They seem to be constantly on the move. And given the wide social wealth differences, there are many, many options.Interestingly enough, the further you go, the cheaper things get. For instance, a 100km bus ride in an air-conditioned bus with a video playing can be the same price as a 3km local ride Boats Fast ferries: Weesam Express, Ocean Jet and SuperCat. Good option. Fast, reasonably pricedLong distance passenger ferries: Beats flying if you're on a super-tight budget vs flying, but much slower. (e.g., 28 hours Manila to Cebu vs an hour in the air)Bangka/ Pump boats: Double outrigger boats that can be used on short to medium hauls. The classic design in the island for almost all boats Usually the best option vs a bus. Often the only choice Planes Cebu Pacific: Domestic and international carrier Good routes, occasionally OUTSTANDING fares. But...

Refund from Cebu Pacific Air

by sanggano

Cebu Pacific Air tends to be slow on refunds. I brought all the documents required for a refund to the Cebu Pacific office at Robinsons Galleria - then they told me the refund would be credited to my credit card. That was more than a year ago. My credit card statements have not shown a refund up to now. You could write the Department of Trade and Industry, Bureau of Trade Regulation and Consumer Protection, 2/F Trade & Industry Building, 361 Sen. Puyat Avenue, Makati City and they will ask Cebu Pacific to explain. that should catch their attention.
