MOVING ABOUT WITHOUT BREAKING THE baNK

by AusPinay

Hiring a private car is common and economical anywhere in the Philippines, or where available. Other places like far provinces don't have cars for hire but may be jeepneys or even tricycles! It is generally easier to hire a car (including the driver). In our family's case a relative always serves as driver. All we need is to feed him and he's happy enough,LOL!Traffic is horrible in Manila and even in small towns as many roads are bumper to bumper! You need a lot of patience!Expect to pay from 1,500 pesos a day (that's less than AUD40) for hiring a van like Toyota Hi-ace or a Starex or FX, which are popular here!sometimes it can go low as 1,000 pesos depending on the size of the car! You can negotiate the price if you are hiring for longer say, two weeks, perhaps 1,000 pesos or a bit more.Just make sure the car is reliable through the person/s who referred you.In Manila, taxis are fine or...

Basically each unit has their separate route but all going to Quiapo. The bus' terminal is in Cainta. Most of their bus units are airconditioned, and with Video playing on board.

Getting Around the Philippines

by hunwagner

Getting around the Philippines is both easy and hard.On the brighter note, flight and boat connections between the various islands are usually more frequent than in the neighbouring island nation of Indonesia or in the South Pacific. On the other hand, the roads here are among the worst in South-East Asia! Overland journeys can be surprisingly long and uncomfortable even by bus. On smaller roads, you may well have to use the Philippines trademark jeepneys. These tend to leave only when (truly) full - take it as a not-to-be-missed part of the colorful Philippine experience! ;-)

Cover a lot of ground for a buck

by GenuinelyCurious

TAXIs in Manila are a true bargain IF you can get the drivers to use their meters. With a 30 Peso drop and a very generous per km click of 2.5 per, you can zip around some of the major hot spots for US$1-2. However, be warned of the guys who claim they can't/won't turn on the meter. It's illegal, but my solution is just to get out of the cab and find someone else who will use them. Tip accordingly.
